Met oli us Club Plans Bar-B-Q A family outing on the Mctollus, with the public invited to partici pate, will be held Sunday, Aug. 21, when the Camp Sherman Commu nity club sponsors Its second an nual mountain trout and elk meat barbecue, at Holzman's Lazy Mountain place. Festivities will stin t at 12 noon, with dinner to be served between 3 and 6 p.m. Entertainment will include original mountain games, novelty features, dancing, swim ming and horseback riding, with prizes to be awarded. The menu will feature elk meat from C. V, Barton's Black and White ranclv at Klamath Falls. Chefs will be Dr. Jerome Holz man, John Bruns, Ray Dutcher and Bert Llpman. Merwin Paget is general chairman in charge of the day's activities. Directions for reaching the Holzman place will be posted at the Camp Sherman store, it was announced. Proceeds from the event will go to the community club. . a Redmond Girl Tells Betrothal Redmond, Aug. 18 (Special) The engagement of Miss Bonnie Rennolds to Robert Webb, of . Madras, was announced at a party given last week at the home of Miss Rennolds' mother, Mrs. Ma bel Rennolds. Folded notes, with pictures of the betrothed couple inside, re vealed the romantic news. The wedding date, September 4, was inscribed on a decorated wedding cake. i A mock wedding was the fea ture of the evening's entertain ment. Wesley C. Baker, of the Com munity Presbyterian church, of ficiated at the wedding of Miss June zinckgraf and Carl H. Coad, last Friday at 5 p.m. in the chapel of the Congregational church, Eu ' gene. The vows were exchanged in the presence of a few close friends of the couple. The bride is a member of the Redmond union high school facul ty and has been attending sum mer school at the University of Oregon in Eugene this past sum mer. The bridegroom is associ ated with the law firm of. Cun ning "and Brewster. Redmond. Mr. and Mrs. Coad will make their home on Coad's ranch near Culver. Aug. 18 (Special) Former Redmond residents now living in or near Portland gath ered Sunday, Aug. 14, for the fourth annual Redmond picnic in Columbia park, Portland. About 125 persons were present. Includ ing several central Oregon resi dents. Mrs. John Hansen and daughter, Pat, of Terrebonne, and Al Newman, Madras, were among those attending. The picnic is held traditionally on the second Sunday of August. Mr. and Mrs. Alvin neinatn, Portland, were in charge of ar rangements. Field hjfye begun a five-year plan which they hope eventually will give them a six-room home. They plan to add a .room from time to time. Malaya exported a record of 698,000 tons of rubber during 1943; the big crop was possible because the rubber trees had rest ed during the war. SEE REV. VINCENT LARSON as "Joseph" in "The Light Eternal" TONIGHT and FRIDAY High School Gym A Council Fire Held A grand council fire Saturday night climaxed the first week of camp at the Camp Fire Girls' summer camp at Crescent lake. Presentation of awards was a highlight of the program. Partic ipating in the fire lighting cere mony were Barbara Thompson, Nan Hagedorn, Mary Vandevert, Miss Marianne Gerke, Sally Pe tranovlch, Pat Crawford, Robin Rixe and Phyllis Everman. All girls in camp received awards based on the number of years they attended camp. There were four Gypsies, four Vaga bonds, 21 Trail makers and 39 Faggot finders. . . . Nan Hagedorn and Connie O'Leary received their honors, and those who received the clean tent honor included: Joan Coy ner, Ann Smyth, Myra Widener, Mary Theresa Cady, Nancy Hart man, Sandra Elder, Janls Baer, Patty O'Leary. Francis Pipes and Miss Viola Martin. Swimming Honors Earned A number of girls won swim ming honors. Those who received the Polliwog award included: Karol Skjersaa, Jerry Hoskinson, Donna Gum pert, Rae Rumpert Gretchen Hartsock, Louise Wat son, Rosemarie Bruce, Kay Nich ols, Gay le Calvert, Marilyn Booth, Kathryn Shaver, Imogene Smith Nancy Harrman, Mary Theresa Cady, Joan Winslpw, Jo Ann Coy ner, Sandra Elder, Norma Steen, Deanna Musser, Robin Board man, Sally Petranovlch. Elda Mae Schoonover, Susan Hein, Peggy Connor, Merrilyn Ross, Janis Baer and' Kathleen Smith. The following won the frog award: Kay Nichols. Gayle Cal vert, Marilyn Booth. Gretchen Hartsock, Norma Steen, Robin Boardman, Joan Coyner, Fat Crawford, Robin Rixe, Priscilla Meyers. Sally Nielsen, Joan Wins low, Karol Skjersaa. Margaret Holman, Shirley Booth and Ann Smyth. Barbara Bartlemay and Jo Coyner won the fish award. New Camp Begins The. second week of camp got under way Sunday, with more than 100 girls and staff members registered. The final event will be a grand council fire Satur day, Aug. 20, at 8 p. m., culmi nating the second week of camp. Parents and friends have been invited to attend. Signs giving directions to the camp site will be posted on the Crescent lake road, it. was announced. E. Stevens and Mrs. Park Fleming were honored tit a surprise shower of cards and handkerchiefs Friday evening In the 1QOK hall, following the regu lar meeting of the Kebekah lodge. The occasion was Mi's. Stevens' birthday anniversary. Mrs. Flem ing was recognized for services to the lodge. Mrs. Fred Gibson, retiring de gree staff captain, who served in that capacity nearly 14 years, was also honored. She was presented a gift from the lodge, with Mrs. A. B. Burleigh making the presen tation. Mrs. Gibson Is now vice grund of the lodge. Mrs. C, E. Hein will be- the new degree cap tain. Visitors at the lodge meeting were Mr. and Mrs. F, T. Jones, of Fruitvale Rebekah lodge No. 4, Mission City, British Columbia. Mr. and Mrs. Jones come to Bend every summer and attend the local lodge meetings while they are visiting. Mrs. Jones is re cording secretary of her lodge. Jones is a post office employe in Mission City. a a a Family Picnic Set for Aug. 28 At their meeting Monday eve ning at the home of Mrs. Robert Breckenridge, members of the Young Mothers' study club set August 28 as the date for the an nual family picnic at Suttle lake. The group will meet at the east end of the lake early in the after noon, it was announced. About 20 members were pres ent at the meeting, at which Dr. Elizabeth Bishop, medical direc tor of the tri-county health unit, discussed child health and an swered questions. The next meeting will be Sep tember 19 at the home of Mrs. Vernon Leverett, 355 Delaware. a a a Redmond Woman Honored at Party Redmond, Aug. 18 (Special) Mrs. John B.
