Show Held Today

the library auditorium. Judging

and Mr. R. N. Elliot, Powell

A silver tea and a plant and

adernoon, as part of the occa
sion. The flower show ha been a
highlight of the late summer
flower season (or many years.
The Bend Garden club, which
sponsors the event, is one of the
city's earliest organizations.
Mrs. Stella Nelson, president,

Miss Mitchell's death, additional

Her personal tragedy had in
voked almost universal sympathy
from a world that considered her
one of the great novelists of all
time. Grady memorial hospital
was deluged with messages o( en
couragement, (rom persons In
high and low station.
President Truman telegraphed
the hoe that she would recover.
A negro telephoned to inquire
about "Miss Peggy." Gravitt visit
ed the hospital as soon as he was

BEND CAR STOLEN
State police and Bend authori
ties today are looking (or the car
of George Wilson, 11-8 Daven
port, stolen from a ixirking place
on Bond .street Saturday night.
The car was unlocked.
Its license was given ns Oregon
234-tMi. A black two-door Chev
rolet '3( sedan, the car was found
to be missing Sunday morning,
when Wilson came for it around
9 o'clock.
