It was the biggest fatality list since Dec 14 15, 1946, when 12 died. The week end's worst accident occurred when an automobile plunged off the South Santiam highway near Tombstone Prairie, east of Lebanon, killing three Bend residents. Dead were Mr. and Mrs. Ivan G. Marsh and Mrs. Bernard A. Blind. Mrs. Blind s husband and four children of both families are in hospitals. Raymond Rhoads, 16, Shafter, Cal., was crushed to death when a car in which he and five others were riding overturned on a curve near Bonanza, about 35 miles east of Klamath Kalis. Motorcycle Hits Truck At La Grande, Leon M. Gowins, 18, was killed when his motor cycle smashed into a truck near his home. Three died Saturday night when a pickup truck overturned six and a half miles east of Swiss Home. Vernon Spink. 45, Poenix, Ariz., his brother, Louis V., 28, and Owen P. Hedges, 37, both of Elmira, Ore., were the victims. Warren Roger Allen, 37, Baker, Ore., truck driver, burned to death Saturday when his truck- trailer sped out of control, crash ed and burned near Baker. John Gilligan, Scoppoose, was fatally injured Saturday in a two car collision north of Scappoose. Reuben Sanders Jr., 35, Chemawa reservation Indian, died Saturday south of Milwaukie in a head on smashup. Expert Summoned To Open Bend Safe The halbrook Motors company safe jammed since Saturday was opened at last by a Portland expert, at 1 today. Paul Ryder, manager of the safe department of Smith Brothers, office equip ment, in Portland, succeeded in getting inside the iron door after boring a number of holes in a hunt for the control bolts, which, he said, went "out of control." The locking device had Jammed at closing time Saturday, and the safe had defied efforts of Jack Halbrook, manager, throughout Sunday.
