State police, acting on a tip that Summer had boarded a bus for Salt Lake Clly, hailed the vehicle at Maupin, Ore., but said the suspect was not aboard. Bus company employe had Identified a picture of the wanted man a one they had seen board the bus early today. With the bu lead proving fu tile, officer wung their search back to the Portland area. Summers ha been charged with the double-slaying of his Tacoma neighbors, Mr. and Mr. Howard Easlcy. Their bullet-riddled bodies were found, Thursday night by berry plck-.-r on a Natchez pass log ging road 50 miles east of Ta coma. Both had been shot through the chest with a high-powered rifle. A Portland traffic policeman spotted the murdered couple's car, a rJ.if cncvrolet coupe, last night. Me followed the car Into the west hills district, stopped It. and took the driver to police headquarters. The driver, Richard Aust Jr., 24, Portland, was questioned and then released. Aust told police tnat he had bought the car Thurs day from a man whom he identi fied as Summers. He said he had given Summer $100 in cash and had cgreed to bring $30 more to him ut a local hotel. When he arrived with the money, Sum mers had checked out, Aust told police.
