For two games the Seals tried playing the swift colored short stop with a defensive setup that made left field look like a bis terminal at rush hour. Wilson, although a left-handed swinger, is a dead left field hitter, so the Seals put everyone on that side of the lot. The result was five hits for Mr. Wilson all of them to left field. Last night the Seals abandoned the shift and played the speedster straight away after he had clouted a double and a single in two trips. Produces Victory Wilson was Instrumental In the Oakland victory as the Acorns paced the league to a play-the-big Inning night. The Oaks broke a 4-4 tie with nine runs in the eighth and beat San Francisco 13-4. Coast Conference To Hire .Supervisor San Francisco, July 23 IP The Pacific coast conference will have a full-time supervisor of footbali and basketball officials this year, conference commissioner Victor O. Schmidt announced today. Schmidt announced the appoint ment of Albert S. Curtis, Fort Worth, Tex., to the position. Cur tis coached in Texas high schools and has been a grid and cage of ficial 'in the southwest confer ence since 1929. Schmidt said Curtis would han dle the training, assignment and general supervision of the con ference game officials. Previously T. M. Fitzpatrlck of Oakland has supervised football officials and Ralph O. Coleman of Corvallis, Ore., and Forrest Twogood, Los Angeles, have han dled basketball oficials. Bend Elks Going To Sweet Home Oyer Week End The Bond Elks will go Into the second half of the Oregon State league season tlrta week end, with two games hilled against the tough Sweet Home nine on the Linn county diamond. The Elks will move over the mountains early this afternoon, with their first game booked for- 8:30 to night, daylight saving time. The team will slay in Sweet Homo tonight and will face the Sweet Home squad again tomorrow af ternoon at 2:30. Manager Bud Russell said he will start Jim Farmer against Sweet Home tonight, with either Bill Austin or Hrem to get the call tomorrow. Austin, a left hander from nrownsvllle, will join the Elks this week end for his first league game. Also on deck will be Jim Farmer. This provides Bend with four pitchers. "We are now tops In the pitch ing department ami ready for battle." Russell said, adding: "We are not going to take any chances In the second half." This coming week Bend will face Albany in a split series. On July 30 the Elks will play in Albany, and on July 31, Sunday, the Albany team will come to Bend.
