club's exhibit featured crops und
canning und was in the Des
chutes Federal Savings and Loan
company window and was pre
pared by Mrs. Prichard and Mrs.
E. t;. Howley. Haley Prichard
stayed at the window all morn
ing and answered questions
about it, which were many.

day evening. Mrs. Del MatUon,
social chairman, made tne an
nouncement and stated that the
meeting would start at 7:30 sharp
with grangers to bring their own
sandwiches. Mrs. Carson Call an
nounced the Juvenile grange pic
nic to be held at the Pioneer park
on July 20. Mrs. Howard Hyde
announced the U.K. club meeting,
Murjorie Davidson gave the
youth report and Walter Prich
ard i!ave the BEricultural report
und urged members to attend the
soil conservation meeting at uie
courthouse on Friday evening.
It was announced the grange
had purchased five wall lamps
for the Sunset home from money
received for the gift last year.
Quarterly reports were made by
the secretary and lecturer and ac
cepted by the group.
The resignation of Marilyn
Bishop as lady assistant stew
ard was accepted and Mrs. Wal
ter Prichard was elected to fill
the vacuncy. John Stenkamp,
muster, acted as the installing of
ficer. Mrs. Mae Hambv. Mr. and Mrs.
Nolan Turner, and Mr. and Mrs.
C. W. Hitchcock served on the
hospitality committee for the

American home were described
here by the American Cancer so
ciety. Dr. bchnelder, assistant director
of the society' statistical research
section, said more than uo.isiu chil
dren under 18 annually lose one
parent, with a slightly higher per
centage of father dying from
cancer than mother.
Of these 60,000 children, 500
lose a second parent every year
and are thereby orphaned.
Summarizing this tragic pic
ture, the doctor estimated that at
least 475,000 children under 18
