JuS-TJie, Qrpqk county welfare adminlJirrtitfOB has announced that Miss Mada line Christopherson of Eugene will administer affairs of the county welfare office during the month of July. She replaces Mrs. Carl Peterson, in churge of the office the past two years, who recently resigned. The county welfare commis sion has not yet named a perm anent successor to Mrs. Peter son. Miss Christopherson is a worker at large for the state wel fare organization. EQUIPMENT ARRIVES Prlnevllle, July 8 Leonard & Slate, Portland contractors, are moving In heavy equipment and crews of men preparatory to starting work on a 3.06-mile relo cation of the Ochoco highway. The Portland firm, with the low est of 14 bids, recently was awarded the contract at a price of $262,851. - Two other contractors are now making good progress on relo cated stretches of this road over the Ochoco mountains, which forms a link of U.S. highway 28 across the state from Eugene td Vale. One of the contracts is for a distance of about seven miles, and the other for about 3 Mi miles. Located within the Ochoco na tional forest, these two contracts were awarded last year by the public roads administration. The use of the electron micro scope is now so widespread that one university has opened a pro gram to give scientists special training In its operation and use. 812 Arrests Made in Year By Bend Force A total of 812 arrests were made by the Bend police in the 194849 fiscal vear. according to a report today by Chief of police Henry Casiday. Police also issued 754 parking tickets in the same period, oi tnose arrested, zui per sons were charged with, drunken ness. or disorderly conduct. Tral flc tickets were issued to 383 per sons on charges ranging from reckless driving to operating an improperly equipped venicie. Fourteen persons were arrested on fejony charges and one aiicst of a delinquent emio was maae. Eighty-one citations were is sued to persons for allowing their dogs to run at large. In the one year period 294 dogs and cats were disposed of by returning them to their owners, placement in homes, or by destroying them. A total of 1641 complaints were filed with the police and 1766 Investigations were conduct ed in the 1948-49 fiscal year. 151 Accidents One hundred fifty-one of the in vestigations involved traffic acci dents,. one of which resulted in a fatality. There was also an inves tigation of one suicide case. Revenue from meters, fines, bail and impounding fees for the one year period amounted to $42, 610.84. This past month 108 complaints were filed with the police. Thir teen persons were arrested on drunk and disorderly charges and 63 parking tickets were issued. Total income from fines, me ters," bails' and impounding fees for the month of June amounted to $4,518.97. PAVING STARTED Prineville, July 8 Prineville Wednesday launched an ambi tious program to bring its streets from a condition of horse and buggy days to modern motor traffic. Under supervision of C. C. McGlenn, street superin tendent, and Foreman Otis Mc Kinnon, work was started on the paving of 27 blocks of streets. The 1949 program is an ex-' panded continuation of a project of Jast year, when 12 blocks in the business district were paved. ITS A PUNCTUAL FAMILY Mt. Pleasant, Tenn. iu Helen Eddlemon was graduated from high school here with a record of not missing a single day of school in 12 years. Her older sis ter, Dorothy, who was graduated last year, missed only one day. Up to last year the only paving found in Prineville was that on thoroughfares carrying the traf fic of state highways across town.
