Fun night for seventh, eighth and dinth grade pupils was held at the Galloway home Monday night, A "cook-out" was featured as a part of the evening's enter tainment. Mrs. Harry Sly spon sors the group. . . Mr. and Mrs. Sam Henry nave returned from a trip to the mid dle west. The Henrys visited the Black hills as part of their vaca tion. Henry is an employe of Redmond (Houk) Motor Co. Mr. and Mrs. John C. Roy Henry, who is stationed at Pensacola, Fla., is in Redmond visiting friends and relatives. Miss Darlene Fields left Tues day for La Grande to visit rela tives. , The fire department answered a call to the Dant & Russell mill vicinity Monday to put put a grass fire. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Harrington, Darlene and Mickey spent last week vacationing at the coast. Mr. and Mrs. Strom of Nampa, Ida., are visiting Mrs. Strom's stepfather and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Harrington. Monte Gardner was among the boys who went to Eugene Sun day to attend the motorcycle races. The boys stopped in Sis ters for a buekaroo breakfast. Dr. and Mrs. G. M. Dale are planning a coast trip over the 4th of July. Douglas Shepard of Tumalo was in Redmond on business Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Prahl of Portland stopped at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Elgin Gardner while en route to Crane prairie on a fishing trip. Prahl is a brother of Mrs. Gardner. The Prahls also visited Mr. and Mrs. Bob Gillespie of Tumalo before returning to Portland. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bessey and Joan were guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Howe of Bend Tuesday evening. Mr. and Mrs. VV. A. Doyle Satterlee, who has been in Redmond for several weeks, has gone to Portland for the rest of the summer. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bessey and Joan, Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Moody and Don, Mr. and Mrs. A. Shof stall and Bob and- Duayne, Mr. and Mrs. Wilden, Mr. and Mrs. John Hopper and Mr. and Mrs. Bob Moody of Cottage Grove have planned a picnic at Cline falls for Sunday, July 3. Mrs. Bill Henderson of Port land is spending this week visit ing friends "and relatives in cen tral Oregon. Mrs, Henderson will be remembered as Nell Town send. . . ' . Donald Krieger is spending this week at the homo of his parents resting up for a trip to Texas to play in the national junior golf tournament. Donald will return to Portland for practice before leaving for the tournament July 25. David Krieger, who is working in Portland, plans to spend the Fourth in Redmond with his par ents. Mr. and Mrs. C. Clark, Vaunda, Lola and June, and Mrs. Sarah Clark are plenning a trip to Springfield over the week end. They will go to the coast to spend, the Fourth and return to Red-' mond the first of the week. ,,Mrs. E. J. Nellls died June 26 .at tile Old People's home in Bend. Mrs. Nellis was 84. Funeral serv ices were held in the Redmond Christian church Wednesday morning. Rev. W. O. Herbison conducted the services. Inter ment was in the Redmond ceme tery. Zacher mortuary had charge of funeral arrangements. Mrs. Orr Royal has returned to Redmond after having spent the past JO days in Salem. Mrs. J. Billingsley was a Red rami visitor Wednesday. Mrs. Delia Nance was in Red mond Wednesday. She brought her son, George, and Sharon Schonneker to the library party. Miss Lois Harrington will leave Saturday for a two weeks' vaca tion visiting relatives near Wasco. Bruce Rogers, a Redmond dele gate to Boys State, was chosen as one of the policemen. Bruce will return Saturday. New officers to serve the Red mond Lions club are Keith Parkinson, president; Lester El liott, secretary-treasurer; George McKinnon, first vice-president; Roy UerUngor, second vice-president; Al Miller, third vice-president; M. W. Pearson, Lion tamer; Ed Endicott, Tail twister, and Gordon Bentson and Ed Sherlock, directors. Bend Riflemen ;h Leave for Meet t. Six 30-calllier riflemen, repre senting the Bend Rifle club, left this morning for Fort Lewis, 'where they ar to compete in the Washington state rifle matches on July 2, 3 and 4. While attend ing the matches, the Bend rifle men will be quartered in bar racks at the fort, and will be served army rations. The matches will be conducted by the person nel of the 2nd infantry. Army, marine and civilian teams will compete. Making the trip from Bend are Fred Fredericksen,, Bob Clug ston, Horace Tolbert, Joe Steppe, Bob Burleigh and Floyd Brewer. The first day's shooting will consist of Individual matches at all ranges, 200, 300, 600 and 1,000 yards. On the scecond day, four- man team contests win oe neiu ui 200 yards, slow and rapid fire, and at 600 yards. On the third day, teams of six men each will fire at all ranges. UNEMPLOYMENT MOUNTS Washington, July 1 Wi - A heavy influx of high school and college students seeking work sent June unemployment to a new seven-year high of 3,778,000, the census bureau estimated to day. VOTE TO END STRIKE Portland, July 1 (IJ'i Unofficial sources today said striking AFL mlllmen in 32 Oregon woodwbrk ing plants voted to go back to work with pay raises from 3V4 to 1214 cents hourly. The mlllmen, who struck 68 days ago, had asked for a 17 Vi cent hike, paid holidays and work ing condition concessions. Under the employer proposal voted upon, workmen's classifica tions were reshuffled, setting up 70 categories. The strike began April 22 when pickets appeared at the Cassady furniture works in Portland. Pollen grains from different plants vary physically and chemically.
