Earl Stalnback a emergency fact finding board today will hear ad ditional testimony from CIO long shore representatives in defense of the walk-out. Louis Gold b 1 a 1 1, secretary treasurer of ' the International Longshoremen's and Warehouse men's union, told the board yes terday that employers were de termined to turn the hearings Into a "murder trial" of the ILWU. Earlier, he had charged that the stevedoring industry was Intent on smashing hte union and asked the board to rule whether the strike is "communist" inspired." uovernor Criticized Goldblatt severely criticized Gov. Stalnback for waiting 47 days before appointing the five- man board in a move to settle the walkout, and then allowing only one week for the Investigators to 1 make their recommendations. He called on the board to rec-, ommend renewed negotiations for a period of one week. If negotia tions failed, then the dispute should be submitted to arbitra tion. The only alternative, he de clared, was destruction of the union. Board member Dr. Harold Rob erts of the University of Hawaii answered Goldblatt that It was the board's intention to recom mend a proposal which would carry the full weight of public opinion. This In turn, he said, would force both parties to ac cept the proposal. In demanding a ruling on tne "communist" issue, Goldblatt said it had been repeatedly charged that union's demand for a wage increase of 32 cents per hour or voluntary arbitration of that de mand "is a part of a communis tic plot or conspiracy being wag ed bv the union." This has become an Issue, it has become an issue because the employers have chosen to make it one. Therefore, we believe It becomes necessary for the emer gency board to make a ruling whether, the strike is communist insoired." Employers opposed Goldblntt's request on grounds that the only issues confronting the lact-nnct- ers were whether the stevedoring wages should be raised or low ered and on whnt date. , The union will continue to pre sent Its case today with employer representatives cross-examln 1 n g witnesses. Employers will make the same type of presentation later in the Hearing. events will be the water follies, at 2 p.m., and the evening pageants. Large crowds are expected both nights, with more seats to be available than ever before. Re served seats this year are being equipped with foot rests. Specta tors who plan to view the pag eant from points back of the seats are being warned by the commit tee that not even standing space will be available there this year. In elevating the seats, space for merly occupied by standees has been utilized. The entire river program on July 4 will be presented as a treat to the public, and will be featured that evening, Monday, by a band concert under direction of Don Pence. The concert will be played from a platform under the arch. Soloists also will be presented, and there will be group singing. The arch again will be Illumin ated. However, It Is stressed there will be no pageant Monday night. Public Dances Dances again will be featured as a part of the celebration pro gram, under supervision of Con ner and his committee. On the night of July 2, public dances will be held at both the B.P.O.E. and Eagles' halls, with both lodges donating their halls and music. Dur.ces again will be held in botn halls Sunday night, starting at 12:01, for pageant goers and others. People planning on attending the dances are being advised by the committee that If they buy their tickets in advance from the queen candidates they can attend dances in either halls, or go from one hall to the other. If tickets are bought at the doors at dance time, dancing will be limitqd to the halls where tickets are pur chased. Ball Games Planned Under auspices of' the Bend Elks, baseball games will be held over the week end, on Saturday night and Sunday and Monday af ternoons. The general committee reported today that pageant arrangements are well ahead of schedule, with seats in place and the arch frame work completed. Work also is under way on at least a dozen floats, with several others to be started In the next few days, However, Art Klxe, in charge ot floats, reports that about three more floats can be accepted. This year, Redmond, Madras Socialite Faces Shooting Count Chicago, June 18 ttP Socialite Carl Moore Jr., 51, faced a charge of assault with Intent to kill to day for shooting his "best friend," Robert Mct.au, 41, wncn iwci.au allegedly threatened him with a knife in misguided jealousy over the wealthy executive's ex-wife. , . Police Capt. William Burke said he intended to file the assault charge against Moore whether or not McCall was willing to sign a complaint. Chief Justice John MeDermott ot criminal court ruled that Moore must be booked before . noon today or released. . - Burke said that if McCall died, he would change the charge to manslaughter. However, McCall's condition improved today. Moore shot McCall early yes terday with a .32 caliber pistol' when the former army captain allegedly seized a butcher knife and threatened him. . -., - No Statement McCall, suffering 11 perfora- -tlons of the Intestines, made no statement in connection with the shooting which came after the men had spent the evening drink ing. Moore said McCail apparently was resentful when Moore said , he was still friendly with his former wife, Florence, who di-, vorced him more than a year ago. .. McCall had never indicated, Moore said, that he was in love with Moore's former wife. McCall formerly was married to Barbara Morse, daughter of Col. and Mrs. Robert Morse of the Fairbank, Morse and company ' family. They have an eight-year-, old daughter. !
