As the close approached the market was Irreg ularly lower. Trading was less active than in any session since last Thurs day with sales to 2 p.m. totaling 510,000 shares against 640,000 yesterday. Wall street was interested In the remarks of Alfred P. Sloan Jr., chairman, and C. E. Wilson, president of General Motors Corp., that the United States was not in danger of a lengthy de pression, but that the next 60 to 90 days will be "very Interesting." Investors were somewhat skep tical, however, and the bulk of the day's market activity consist ed of evenlng-up operations as well as profit-taking. There was no aggressiveness shown by sell ers. Commodities paralleled the dip In slocks. Grains had losses rang ing to more than two cents In wheat. Hogs lost 25 to 50 cents.
