Boy, 9, Confesses
He Locked Three
Tots in Ice Box
Walnut Ridge, Ark., June 9 'IP'
A nine-year-old boy admitted to
authorities today that he shut
three playmates in an ice box
during a game of hide-and-seek,
then left them to suffocate when
he couldn't get the door open.
The boy, James Buddy Ches
slcr, sobbed out his story late
yesterday and again early today
in the presence of officers and
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bor
den Chessier, according to Prose
cuting attorney Millard Hardin
The red - haired youngster's
statement apparently solved the
ice-box deaths of James Delbert
Chastain, two, his nine-year-old
sister, Joyce Ann Chastain, and
six-year-old Shirley Ramsey.
.The three children were found
crammed into the old-fashioned
ice-box, suffocated, last Friday
by Mrs. Ed Chastain, mother of
two of the victims.
Buddy is an uncle of the Ram
sey girl.
Hardin, who revealed the boy's
confession, would not comment
on whether any action could or
would be taken against him. But
other officers said unofficially
that the tragedy "appeared to be
accidental."

The Bulletin continues today,
as an aid in the hospital under
taking, the list of paid-up sub
scribers to the Central Oregon
Hospitals foundation. The names
are listed as they will appear in
the memorial lobby of the new
hospital, unless the foundation
office has been otherwise noti
fied. Headquarters are room 26
of the O'Kane building.
Names of the contributors are
to appear In alphabetical order.
