Mrs. Len McCarthy and chil dren, Bonnie, Joyce and Bert, and Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Ditmar and daughters, Nigel and Sheila, were bunnay guests at the H. K. luck cr home. Miss Phyllis Halllean spent the Memorial day week end at the home or her parents, Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Halligan. Miss Carol Hoyt and Don Simpson accom panied Phyllis home. Recent Memorial day guests at the Marshal Welshon's home were their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Tim Sullivan, from Kla math Falls. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Maddox and family visited at Sweet Home Memorial day with Maddox's mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Middleton. Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Denton, formerly of Bend, now living in Portland, were Saturday dinner guests at the Marshal weisnon home. Guests over the Memorial day week end at the Leo Bishop home were Mrs. Bishop's sister and fam ily. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hollerr- beck, and Mis. Bishop's uncle, Wayne Larken, from L,ongvlew, Wash. Miss Karen Chapman was an over-night guest Wednesday eve ning at the home of Miss Mary Jane Nelson. Robert Smith of Portland visit ed at the Darrell Escleck home one day last week. Jimmie Boyd visited in Corval lis over the Memorial day week end. Mr. and Mrs. G. C. Foster and daughter, Althea, and Mrs. Larry Foster and daughter, Twilla, call ed at the H. R. Tucker home Wednesday evening. , Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Van Vleet Jr., from Hillsboro, spent the Memorial day week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Van Vleet. Mr. and Mrs. V. L. Wetzel and son, Ronald, from Caldwell, Ida., spent the week end with Mrs. Wetzel's parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Colver. Mr. Wetzel and Ronald returned home Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Marsh and family and Mr. and Mrs. Bert Cook spent Sunday afternoon at the Paul Marsh home. Joe Boyd spent Wednesday and Thursday fishing at the Ochoco reservoir near Prineville. Dwayne Crane was a guest at the Earl Anders home Sundaq. Millard Marsh and Douglas An derson were among the boys who attended the scout rednezvous on Spring creek the past week end. Mr. and Mrs. Pop Wright and their daughter and her husband spent Sunday evening visiting at the Darrel Eslick home. Wright formerly lived in Bend. He and Eslick were high school pals. Mr. and Mrs. Chester Williams and William Morris of Sweet Homo called Monday evening at the Earl Anders home. Sheriff and Mrs. Harold Sexton from The Dalles spent the Memo rial day week end with their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Sexton. Sunday dinner guests at the Sexton home were local rela tives, Mr. and Mrs. George Childs, Mr. and Mrs. Tod Sexton and Mrs. Thomas East. Williams Church of God missionary so ciety will meet Thursday at 10 a.m. at the home of Mrs. Arthur Smith, 390 West Railroad. Pot- luck luncheon will be served at noon. Banlist Women's union will meet tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Carl Andis, 1613 Division. A second group, for younger women of the church, is to be orgunlzed, and prospective members are being invited to at tend. Itcbekah lodge will meet Fri day, June 10, at 8 p.m., at the I.O.O.F. hall. Mrs. Elmer Painter of Boyd Acres reported that a prowler yesterday evening enter ed her home and helped himself to food, iieds were mussed and it is believed that some articles, in cluding a flashlight, were taken. George I. Hall of New York, grand exalted ruler of the Elks, handed the check to Dr. .David W. E. Baird, dean of the medi cal school. The clinic will be equipped to treat the visually handicapped and its program will tie in with that of the Oregon state school for the blind in Salem. Dr. Kenneth Carl Swan, head of the department of ophthamol ogy, will set up the clinic on a three-fold plan: education, ser vice and care of patients and research. V TURTLE TAKES TRIP Portland, June 7 HH Traffic was slowed to a turtle's pace on u Portland street Sunday. A slow-moving turtle, looking for its six-year-okl master, dis rupted traffic on Westwood drive. One motorist moved the reptile off the road into the brush but It wouldn't stay put. He phoned po lice and drove off. When a patrol man arrived, cautious motorists were carefully maneuvering around the turtle. A phone number painted on the turtle's shell led police to its own er, six-year-old Harold U'ren of Portland. Harold said his pet had been missing for ten days. UNDERGOES OPERATION Dr. F. Dr. Ad ams was in Boston representing this area in the annual meeting of the national scout council when stricken. He is wall known here, and was scoutmaster of the 1948 world jamboree troop In Paris of which Henry Herbring, Bill Niskanen and Jack Symons, Bend, were members.
