Grant Soroptimisfs Install New Officers Miss Zola McDougall was In stalled as president of the Bend Soroptimist club, in an impressive candle-lishtlne ceremony held last night in connection with a dinner at the Pine Tavern. Othsr new ot ncers who were installed were Mrs. Earl Zeek, vice president; Mrs. A. A. Rles, secretary; Mrs. Joe Elder, treasurer, and Mrs. C. V.'Shultz and Mrs. Kenneth G. Cruickshank, board members. As a climax to the ceremony, Mrs. A. A. Symons received her past president s pin, with Mrs. D. Ray Miller, installing officer, making the presentation. Other retiring officers are Mrs. Homer R. Smith, vice president; Mrs. Max' E. Millsap, secretary, and Mrs. Fay P. Beach, treasurer. - Mrs. W. K. Euston, Mrs. Millsap : and Mrs, Beach were recognized for having perfect attendance rec ords for the past year. It was Mrs. Beach's second consecutive year without missing a meeting. Mrs. George S. Heath, who Join ed the club recently, was formally initiated. She was presented a yel low carnation corsage, as were the new and retiring officers." Convention delegates were elected, with Mrs. Ries named for a two-year term and Mrs. Euston for one year. Mrs. Elder and Dr. Pauline sears were named alter nates. , Mrs. Symons presented the club a leather-bound scrapbook for fil ing press notices. Powell Butte Couple Wed Recently Hanford Girl Is Married May 28 To Local Man La Verne Johnstone, Bend, and Miss Patricia Russell, formerly of -Hanford, Calif., were married in a quiet wedding last Saturday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Nicholson, 1414 Baltimore. Rev. Len B. Fishback performed the double-ring ceremony at high noon, In the presence of several relatives and , friends of the couple, - The bride wore a sheer navy blue afternoon frock, with white accessories. She carried a bou quet of deep pink rosebuds. Mr. and Mrs. Nicholson were the attendants. : Mrs. Al Bigus baked the wedding cake. Also present were the bride's father, Elmo Russell, Hanford, and Mrs. C. L. Puerta and daugnter, Dol ores,', from Fresno, Calif. Mrs. Puerta is the bride's sister. After a short honeymoon trip, the newlyweds. returned to Bend to make their home. Johnstone is an employe of The Shevlln Hlxon company. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert John stone, Roseburg. Nine Graduates Are Entertained Nine members of the Bend high school graduating class who arc active members of First Christian church were honored at a dinner party given Tuesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wultcr Daum, 654 East Kearney. The decorations were carried out In blue and gold, the high school col ors. An arrangement of tiny yel low rose buds centered the dining table, and other flowers were used throughout the rooms. Graduates present were Winona Fishback, Charlccn Dahlln, Joan Fuls, Joan TUden, Rose Jackson, Beverly Rclnhart, Ralph Sutton, Allan Waterman and liomml Hodges. Rev. and Mrs. Len B. Fishback and son, Dick, were also guests. The wedding was per formed at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Mr. and Mrs. B. L. Ellis, with Revi D. L. Penhollow officiating. The bride wore a grey suit, with white accessories and a cor sage of roses. Miss Betty Jean Metz Was the bride's only attend ant, and William Steelhammer acted as best man. Questions in regard to Bend's city government are invited and will be answered on the program. At 7:15 this evening another "Fraternally Yours" program will be presented. At 7:30 tomorrow evening the regular weekly "Bend Recreation program" will be heard with Dave Howard, director of recreation, presenting the pro gram. Saturday morning at 6:30 KBND releases a special "Oregon Dairy Month" program saluting, the Oregon dairy industry, and delving into some of the problems facing the dairy industry in this state. Governor Douglas McKay leads the discussion. Each evening Mondav through Friday at 6;l5 we invite you to tune in for the new music pro gram featuring the Emil . Cote Glee club.
