TUESDAY, MAY 17, 1949 THE BEND BULLETIN, BEND, OREGON PAGE THREE Prince Aly, Rita Planning Simple Marriage Rites Cannes, May 17 U' Prince Aly Khan said today that his mar. Wage next week to Rita Hay worth would be "a simple home wedding," with probably :no more than 40 close ' friends present al though they have invited from 80 to 100. for the first time the rich and handsome prince discussed publicly and with considerable exuberance the road show ro mance which saw him and the movie star traveling together through the United States, the Caribbean and Europe. Aly bounded down the steps of his luxurious chateau. He wore cowboy style denims and a red plaid sport shirt. He looked like a young man in love. "I am," he said cheerfully. "And just think -there are only 10 days to go." Seldom Speaks y The son of the immensely rich Aga Khan has spoken publicly of the affair only on the rarest occasions, and then briefly. But today he consented to what amounted to an Interview. "It's going )o be a simple home wedding," Aly said as he slid in behind the wheel of his Alfa Romeo. "I don't expect there will be more than 40 close friends at the ceremony. We've actually in vited from 80 to 100 people, but more than half may not be able to attend." He grinned and pointed to a damaged foot. "I'll probably have to hobble up to the altar," he predicted. "I hurt my foot when I stumbled agai.nst a desk in my office. It's getting better, but I'm afraid it won't be in top shape in time for I he wedding." - He said he had heard and read reports that the marriage would be staged so lavishly as to verge on the fabulous. -"It will bo just a quie sort of THANKS to Voters of Bend . Farmers and grangers of Des chutes county sincerely ap preciate the vote cast in Bend, May 10, against daylight sav ing time. We especially extend our thanks. Deschutes County Pomona Grange E. E. VAKCO, Secretary. wedding," he insisted earnestly. Miss llayworth will wear a sim ple wedding gown. I haven't seen the dress yet, because it's the custom not to see those things beforehand, but I can tell you that it will be simple. "I've bought several wedding gifts for my bride, and I'll give them to her on our wedding day. Of course, I can't tell you about them now, or they would be no surprise toTvfiss Hayworth. They are nice, but not fabulous." Press representatives were given to understand only yester day that an Alfa Romeo convert ible before which. Miss Hayworth posed for pictures was his wed ding present to her.. But that, ap parently, was only a starter. The prince said the wedding would begin with a civil cere mony performed by Paul Derlg non, communist railroad worker who is mayor of the nearby vil large of Vallauris. Then the head of the Paris mosque will preside at a Moslem religious ceremony. The Aga Khan, spiritual leader of millions of Moslems, will give the couple his blessing after the wedding, the prince said. Double-King Affair The civil ceremony will be a double ring affair. Ho empha sized that "plain gold bands" would be used. "There will be .no diamonds," he said. Not long ago his bulky father was given his weight in diamonds by his followers. As the prince pressed the start er of his car, he mentioned that his best man would be Gen. Georges Catroux, former French ambassador to Moscow, with whom he served in the French army in the last war. Miss Hayworth will have no bridesmaids as such, but will be "attended by friends." "How about the honeymoon?" the prince was asked. "We "will be around for a while after the wedding," he said. "But we hope to attend the Eng lish Derby if possible." His horse, Hindustan, is sched uled to race in the Derby. As a last question before he sped off, he was asked about re ports that workmen were prepar ing a sumptuous nuptial chamber at his chateau here. "I am simply continuing to re furnish the house in a modest sort of way," he explained. "I wouldn't use the word 'sump tuous.' " And away he went. Budget Balancing Plan Proposed Washington, May 17' Ml An influential democratic tax expert oroDosed a plan today for bal ancing the 1950 budget without increasing taxes or cutting gov ernment spending materially. The trick to the plan, sponsored by Rep. Wilbur D. Mills, D.,Ark., would be to require corporations, estates, trusts and nonresident aliens to pay all of their taxes within six months after the end of their taxable year. At present, they are allowed 12 months. Mills said the effect would be to swell Uncle Sam's coffers by about $5,000,000,000 in the first six months of 1950. The catch to the plan is that it would provide no long-range solution to the government's spending versus revenue problem. It simply would move forward by six months the date on which all corporation and other similar taxes are due and would put the government in a better financial condition for the next year or two. Beyond fiscal 1951 and 1952, the Mills plan would have no ef fect one way or the other. It is a device for pulling the govern ment out ot a linanclal hole lor a relatively short period. A parallel effect would be to put corporations on a more near ly current basis in their tax pay ments. Mills is a top-ranking member of the tax-drafting house ways and means committee. The Mills plan has the tacit ap proval of ways and means chair man Robert L. Doughlon and has been put up to treasury secre tary John W. Snyder. Snyder thus far has expressed no opin ion on it.
