Convention
Dr. Pauline Sears, of Bend, was
elected to the office of state
health and safety committee
chairman at the state convention
of the Oregon Federation of Bus
iness and Professional Women
in Salem this past week end. Miss
Antoinette Blais, Miss Wilma Ja
cobson, Dr. Sears and Mis. Don
Tnompson attended the conven
tion as delegates of the local club.
Other local members present
were Miss Christobel Davidson
and Mrs. Zona Zalmbach.
New president of the Oregon
federation is Mrs. Hubert Ed
wards, Philomath. Several ' hun
dred women wers present at the
convention.
German Visitor Sponsored
Earlier this month Frau Emmy
Rebstein-Metzger of Mannheim,
Germany, arrived in this country
under the education exchange
program of the office of military
government of the United States
in Germany, the local club has
been advised. The National Fed
eration of Business and Profes
sional Women's Clubs, Inc., will
sponsor Frau Rebstein's 60-day
stay in America, in line with the
American government's policy of
bringing women of other coun
tries to America to learn democra
tic processes. She Is a prominent
woman lawyer, practicing in the
western zones, and an authority
on legislation for women.
"The German women," Frau
Rebstein explained, "have a great
need for united action such as
American women use. Women in
my country must learn how to
make their voices heard and re
spected both politically and econ
omically." Frau Rebstein's visit will in
clude a three-week stay at head
quarters of the BPWC federation
inNfw York, a trip to Washing
ton and tours throughout the
country to enable her to study
and appraise different sections of
the United States, observe local
clubs and attend district meetings.

Bend Delegation
Back From Meet
Twenty-three Bend members of
Royal Neighbors of America at
tended the twenty-eighth inter
county convention May 11 at Mar
cola. Delegations were present
from Eugene, Springfield, Salem,
Cottage Grove, Monroe, Craw
fordsville, Idanha and Bend.
Mrs. Martinus Anderson, Bend,
was elected as a delegate to at
tend the state convention at
Klamath, Falls next year. Mrs.
W. E. Wise and Mrs. E. J. Mar
coulier were convention officers
from Bend. District officers in
troduced were Mae Logan, Port
land, state supervisor; Alice
Breedlove, Cottage Grove, Mabel
Miles, Salem, and Mrs. William
Weaser, Bend, district deputies.
Highlight of the convention was
a banquet held in the IOOF hall,
with 200 persons attending. An
open evening session, featuring
drills, and entertainment followed.
The . 1950 district convention
will be held in Eugene.

Kenwood PTA
New officers of the Kenwood
PTA will be Installed at the
group's last meeting of the
year, tonight in the school lunch
room. The meeting will be called
promptly at 7:30 p.m. Those who
wish to hear the Central Oregon
Oratorio society's presentation
of "Elijah" may leave early en
ough to hear the last half of
the ortorlo, it was announced.
PTA officers to be Installed to
night are Mrs. Kessler Cannon,
president; W. T. Welcome, vice
president; Mrs. William Hand,
treasurer; and Mrs. Richard
Gates, secretary. Projects for use
of proceeds from the recent Ken
wood carnival, sponsored by the
PTA, will be selected.
After the business meeting,
Mildred Chopp, of the high
school dramatics class, will give
a reading. Hostesses for the re
freshment hour will be the first
grade teachers, Mrs. Gordon Dan
lin and Mrs. R. C. Ertle, and the
firts grade room mothers, Mrs.
Clifford Rich and Mrs. Kenneth
Cale. ,
District Nurses
Install Officers
Mrs. J. C. Wright was Installed
as president of district No. 14,
Oregon State Nurses association,
at a dinner meeting last week at
the PIfie Tavern. Others who
were Inducted into offices are
Mrs. Steve Sprague, vice-president;
Mrs. Kenneth Nedrow,
treasurer, and Miss Hulria Lam
mers, secretary. Mrs. Oscar Lar
son conducted the installation.
Twenty women were present,
i Guest speakers for the occa
sion were Miss Shirley Thomp
son, Portland, OSNA president,
and Mrs. A. Hamilton, Portland,
secretary at largo. Mrs. Hamilton
read the Nightingale pledge as
part of the Installation ceremony,
in which retiring officers lighted
candles which they presented to
their successors. Mrs. P. W. Cher-
nenkoft was president last year,
and other officers were Mrs.
Grant Jensen, Mrs, Wright and
Mrs. Sprague.
Two Events Listed for
Women of Bend Golf Club
A trip to The Dalles for golf
and bridge, and the regular
weekly golf luncheon are on the
srhedule for women of the Bend
golf club this week.
A group will leave Thursday

Latest gift to the memorial
rose garden In Pioneer park is a
dozen plants given by the Amer
ican Legion auxiliary, It was re
ported at a meeting of the Bend
Garden club, Friday at the home
of Mrs. John M. Mihelcich. None
of the bushes in the garden was
winter-killed, It was reported.
Mrs. Stella Nelson was in
charge of the program, which
featured a study of tulips. .Tulip
arrangements brought by mem
bers were judged for points, with
Mrs. Laura Pittendrigh placing
first. Mis. Clifford Rasmussen
second and Mrs. Edgar Smith
third.
Mrs. L. M. Lancaster and Mrs.
Elmer Kay were welcomed as
new members. -
The spring flower show will
not be held this year, it was an
nounced. Bridge Prizes Are
Given for Series
At a bridge dinner Saturday
night at the country club, Mr.
and Mrs. Mark Sanders were
presented prizes for high scores
In the winter bridge tournament
for men and women of the Bend
Golf club. Mr. and Mrs. O. A.
Glassow received prizes for sec
ond high scores in the series.
Women who won prizes for the
bridge play Saturday night were
Mrs. H. Allen Young, first; Mrs.
George Ritchie, Jr., second, and
Mrs. Harry Athon, third. Prizes
for men went to E. L. Nielsen,
first; Stephen Malhiew, Portland.

AAUW Planning Breakfast;
Picnic Slated Thursday
Bend branch of the American
Association of University Women
will have a business meeting in
connection with an 8:30 breakfast
Sunday morning, May 22, at the
Pilot Butte inn. Members who
plan to attend were asked to
make reservations at the hotel,
with G. Harris.
The literature study group will
sponsor a picnic, to be held Thurs
day at 5:30 p.m. at the home of

The Wacankiya Camp Fire girls
met last Wednesday at the home
of their guardian. The members
practiced a play, which the group
will present for the Women of
the Moose on May 24.
Mary Plummer gave a talk on
"The Care of Babies." Donna
Davis was elected scribe to re
place Suzanne Gregory, who has
moved to Alabama.

At their last meeting, the mem
bers of Minniheca, who are com
pleting their work for the rank
of woodgatherer, made plans for
the food sale that was held Sat
urday at O'Donnell's market.
Each girl has made a design for
her Camp Fire name and is sten
ciling it on her head band.

The girls of Mrs. William Dur
fee's Blue Bird group, that re
cently flew up into Camp Fire,
have chosen Wetomachic as the
new name for their club. At their
May 7 meeting the girls con
ducted a regular business session
and elected new officers. Presi
dent is Phyllis Fuller; vice-president,'
Carmen Durfce; secretary,
Allison Van Wormcr and scribe,
Judy Lively.
After the business meeting the
girls served tea to their mother
and presented a program. Mrs.
Joe Elder explained "Memory
Books" to the group present.

Effective next week, "Fishing
and Hunting club of the Air," now
at 8:30 Monday evenings, moves
to 8:30 Thursday evenings. The
first Thursday broadcast of this
favorite sportsmen's program
will be May 26.
Memorial day, one week from
next Monday, will see four broad
casts of the Memorial day speed
way race from Indianapolis, put
on the air exclusively on KBND
Mutual Don Lee. The broadcast
starts at 8:30 a. m., and concludes
with a 15-minute program at
12:30 noon.
"Count of Monte 'Cristo" to
night at 8 presents the story of
"Checkmate," a tale of the Ter
rible Turk who is a master of
the game of chess.

of Mrs. E. L. Nielsen, 326 Con
gress. Mrs. Fred Lieuallen will
have charge of the program.
