Parsons heads the slate 01 officers named by the American Legion auxiliary's nom inating committee, at the meet' ing Tuesday evening at the libra ' ry auditorium. Others nominated lor election In June are the fol lowing: Mrs. Clarire J. Douglas, vice-president; Mrs. Edward . Green, second vice-president; Mrs. Bernice Towner, secretary; Mrs. J. W. Armstrong, treasurer; Mrs. Willard Hfgglns, Mrs. Art Brlnson and Mrs. T. J. Casey, executive committee. Mrs. Craig Coyner, Mrs. Ted Mark and Mrs. D. Ray Miller served on the nominating committee. Plan Poppy Sale ; Plans for the annual memorial poppy sale May 27-28 were com ' pleted, with all members to take , part, under airection . oi iwrs. Stella Pearl Runge, poppy chair man. Among . committee mem bers handling, details, are Mrs. Walter Baslm, who will be in charge of radio publicity, and Mrs. William AtLee and Mrs. Rob ert Haymaker, who will arranpe the memorial window. Mrs. Wil liam Niskanen, Mrs. Stella Nelson and Mrs. Sam Thompson are mak ing' wreaths and corsages which will be sold the week end preced ing Memorial day. Orders are being taken now and will be ac cepted until the day of the sale. Poppy posters made, by Bend grade school children In the an nual contest sponsored by the aux iliary will be displayed in down town store windows over the Memorial week end. . , . ' To Sponsor Girls' 1 It was announced at the meet ing Tuesday that the auxiliary is again sponsoring two girls to at tend Girls' State, and The Shev. lln-Hixon Company will again sponsor one girl. There is possi bility that there will be other sponsorships, officers said. The girls are high school juniors, se lected on their tnerlts. by faculty members. : : v. . v . . Roma McComb Is Bride-Elect x At ev recent meeting of Beta Sigma Phi, sorority, Miss Roma McComb announced her engage ment to Robert' D. Carter. The news was told in the traditional manner, with Miss McComb pre senting a box of chocolates and a card with the name of her fiance. Miss McComb is the daughter of Mrs. Emma Walker, of Bend, and Carter Is the son of Mr. and Mrs, Frank Carter, of 1502 Davenport. The bride-elect, a graduate of Bend high school, Is employed as a telephone operator at the local office. Carter attended the local high school before entering the navy, where he served for two years in world war II. He Is em ployed by Brooks-Scanlon, Inc. The wedding Is planned for May 28, at St. Francis Catholic church. Vernel Bigus Celebrates Eighth Birthday Yesterday Mrs. A! BIrus entertained the Sunny Blue Birds and their leader, Mrs. Forrest. Yeoman, Hi a party Wednesday afternoon al the BIrus home, 1425 Baltimore. The occa sion was the eighth birthday anni versary of Vernel Blgus. The girls roasted marshmallnws al the barbecue pit, and Ice cream and birthday cake were served. Others present were Connie Smith, Beverly Shotills, Ellen Hoeft. Shirley Crant, Diannr Yeo man, Christine Carlon, Judy Poor, Judy Haines. Judy Uclphrcy and Bonnie Crocker. Beta Sigma Phi Installs Officers Wednesday Night Tickets for Beta Sigma Phi's cancer benefit card party May 17 are available at the Bend drug store as well as from mem bers, officers announced today. The affair will feature a 1 o'clock dessert luncheon Tuesday In the Pilot Butte inn Blue room, with both bridge and pinochle to follow. The bride, who has lived In Cen tral Oregon since early childhood, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Entrikin, of Bend. Jones, formerly a resident of The Dalles, is executive secretary of the Oregon State Council of Carpenters, AFL. For the past year he has lived In send and has operated his office here. The couple will be at home In Bend, after spending several days in eastern Oregon, Washington ana Jiaaho. Putting Contest Friday To Precede Golf Luncheon A putting contest is being plan ned for .the women's 'golf club tomorrow morning, preceding the regular weekly luncheon at 1 o'clock. The spring handicap tour nament has been postponed, be cause a new sprinkling system is being installed this week at the goll course. Also postponed Is a mixed four-ball foursome, which was scheduled for Sunday. Mrs. W. L. Stollmack is chair man of the hostess committee for the luncheon tomorrow. Assist ing her will be Mrs. E. W. William son, Mrs. Ross Farnham, Mrs. James D. Arbow and Mrs. Marion E. Cady. The hostesses were In correctly listed in Tuesday's paper. Calif ornians, Here To Attend Reunion Mr.' and Mrs. Robert H. Short, of Temple City, Calif.," arrived Saturday by plane for a two-week visit In Central Oregon. High lighting their stay will be a fam ily dinner party Friday night at Mlle-Away ranch, home of Mr. and Mrs. James F. Short, Red mond. The occasion will celebrate the visitors' fifty-eighth wedding anniversary. They were married May 13, 1891, in Missouri. The bride and groom of 58 years ago have four sons and four daughters. In Central Ore gon are George 1. Short, Bend; Wade H. and James F., Redmond, and Mrs. Inez Donahue, Red mond. With their families, they will participate in the reunion, as will another son, Clyde M., of Seattle, and his family. . At a recent school assembly she also was presented with a $5 award py Mrs. Kobert lull, on behalf of the local auxiliary, and a $5 check from Mrs. Joe Brown, of the Redmond Spokesman. Ruth Dixson, editor of "And the Bud Blossoms," surprised Alber ta with a package from her writ ing classmates and the snonsor. Mrs. Maude Lee. Jo Morton and Anna Bozarth, -also members of the creative writing class, placed second and third, respectively, in the district contest. Extension Unit Has Installation Carroll Acres, May 12 (Special) New officers of the Carroll Acres extension unit were installed at a meeting held last Friday at the nome oi Mrs. J. R. Boyd. They are Mrs. H. R. Tucker, chairman: Mrs. Gilbert Nelson, vice-chairman, and Mrs. Larry Foster, secretary-treasurer. Mrs. Hubert Bartlett, a member of the home extension county committee, was guest installing officer. Thirteen memDers were present. A demonstration on "Care of the Skin" was given bv Mrs. Tucker and Mrs. Harold Hanson, project leaders. Potluck luncheon was served at noon. The. meeting was the final ses sion until September.
