135,000,000 feet of lumber valued
at $10,000,000 will be purchased
in the Pacific northwest by the
United Kingdom.
Authorization for the purchase
was revealed here yesterday by
Mathias Niewcnhous. He said
several companies in Washington
and Canada will be involved. Bids
will be accepted soon and trans
portation of the lumber will fol
low Immediately.
Nlewenhous said the largest
lumber export business during
the past year ' has been from
Canada. European nations, he
said, have purchased about $60,
000,000 worth of lumber from the
U.S. and Canada during that time,

layoffs, and a new demand for
budgetary reductions.
Market analysts point out that
no new upturn can now be ex
pected until business can "at least
see the end of the disinflation"
or estimate the extent of the re
cession.

declaration that he will not be a
candidate for the office again. He
suggested that each party in Lake
county put up its strongest can
didate for the two-county office.

dates from Lake county are Intro
duced and get hearings in Des-
cnutes county.-
The growing need for the short
ening of legislature sessions was
stressed by Short, In his Lake
view talk before the local cham
ber of commerce.
