BEND, OREGON Cotton Diverted From China Port, Result of War Washington, April 27 LPi The economic cooperation auminisira tion lias suspended shipment of 100,000 bales of cotton to Lnina. Shipment of the cotton, valued at $10,000,000, had been author ized as recovery aid to China. About $8,000,000 worth of the cot ton was en route to China aboard 17 ships when the suspension or der went out. The ships will be diverted, probably to Kobe, Japan, - ECA sources said. Most of the cotton already at sea had been destined for Shang hai, the ECA headquarters for China. Roger Lapham, the Shanghai mission chief, left the city last night. Accompanied by about 20 dependents of ECA work ers, he arrived in Canton today aboard a U. S. navy plane. ECA officials said the cotton affected by today's suspension was destined for northern Chi nese cities already captured or in jeopardy of being captured by the communists. They left the way open to send ing cotton to the Canton, Swatow or Taiwan areas.
