THURSDAY, 'APRIL 21, 194? IV- THE BEND BULLETIN, BeMD. OREGON Sorority Baby Sits, Raises For Scholarships University of Oregon, April 21 (Special) Baby-sitting to earn your way through college is a pretty well established method, but baby-sitting to finance some other girl's education is a new Idea. And It's an idea that the members of Delta Delta Delta so rority at the University of Oregon have turned into a success story. This week the chapter turned over to the university, to establish Delta Delta Delta scholarships, $600. Most of this money was earned the hard way at 50 cents an hour taking care of children. The whole plan started during fall term, when the chapter, spark ed by committee-chairman Gloria Stannard, Long Beach, Cal., and encouraged by the Eugene and Portland alumnea groups, decid ed they wanted to give a rather substantial sum for scholarships. The way that seemed obvious on if . . Vthe Eugene campus was by offer- .ling their services as baby-sitters (such services being at a prem ium in these parts). Each girl agreed to donate $5 in terms of her time, or ten hours at fifty per. A total of 1200 hours is reached by the time $600 is ac cumulated. . So successful was the project that the sorority decided to make the scholarship fund a continuing one, with two scholarships award ed each year. Junior week end, when the awards are presented, s Junior woman will find herself richer by $350, and $250 will swell the educational fund of a senior woman. The junior woman's scholarship represents the largest all-university award now available. CAKE REAPS BENEFIT Troy, N. Y.
