Forty people, including Knights of Pythias, Pythian Sisters and their guests, attended a banquet Thursday evening at the Pilot Butte Inn, honoring Mrs. Frank Friday, of sForest Grove, grand chief of the women's lodge, and Dr. R. D. Ketchum, of Bend, grand chancellor of Knights of Pythias of Oregon. Tables in "the dining roo'm were attractively decorated with spring flowers. 1-avors were miniature "Easter baskets." - The program included a piano s o 1 o by Lois Gumpert, and a vocal solo by Joyce Van Matre, ot Kertmond, accompanied by Mrs. R. D., Ket chum. After the banquet, the Pythian Sisters held a regular meeting at Eagles hall, followed by a pro gram, which was open to guests. The grand chief was presented a gift, with Mrs. A. E. Stevens, most excellent chief of the wom en's lodge, making the presenta tion. Tribute was paid the grand chancellor in a candlelight cere mony. Nelson Leland, grand master-at-arms, was also introduced. The degree staff and musician presented a gift to Mrs. Fred Gibson, captain of the team. Also receiving recognition was Mrs. A. R. Erickson, of Prineville, past grand chief, who is now district deputy grand chief. Boys Entertain George Nelson, Dick Fishbaek and Ronald Settelmeyer enter tained with humorous readings. The evening's entertainment culminated with the serving of a large cake, decorated with the emblem of the order, which was cut by the grand chief and grand chancellor. Mrs. K. N. Van Matre was in charge of the program, and Mrs. Claude Kelley and Mrs. Ketchum arranged the banquet decorations. Make Prineville Trip On Wednesday evening, 25 lo cal Pythian Sisters attended an affair in Prineville, honoring the grand officers. The Bend lodge presented the hostess group with a beautifully -decorated birthday cake. Annual Luncheon Interests Many Willi the arrival' of spring weather and an increased interest in the "Easter parade," prepara tions for the annual Easier Mon day bridge luncheon, sponsored by Trinity Episcopal ladies' guild, have been given extra impetus, it was reported by committee mem bers, who arc making elabortc plans for the affair. Surprise dec orations are being planned, and an attractive luncheon is to be served. The party will be Monday, April IS, at 1 p.m., in the Episcopal parish hall. A large crowd is ex pected to attend. Miss - Mittye Vandevert was elected president of the Methodist Women's Society of Christian Service for the next fiscal year, at a meeting held Wednesday aft ernoon in the fireside parlor of the church. Members of group 2 were host esses for the social hour. - Extension Units To Have Meetings Home economics extension ac tivities for next week include a recreation training meeting, to be held Tuesday, April 12, at 8 p.m. at the Tumalo grange hall,. and six unit meetings, A test on material covered in the social hygiene course complet ed recently by the Young Mothers study club, will be given Monday, April 11, at 8 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Robert Breckenrldce, 411 East Greenwood, for those who were unable to attend when it was given before. The regular meet ing of the group will he April 18, at 8 p.m. at the home of Mrs. R. G. Lyons, 124 Delaware. LODGE SLATES ACTIVITIES A chapter night program, an executive board meeting and a public card party are scheduled for Women of the Moose next week. The executive meeting will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Down ing hotel, it was announced by B. C. Taylor, senior regent. The meeting Tuesday at 8 p.m. will be committee chairmen's night, with the library, Mooseheart, Monsehaven, publicity and mem bership chairmen to give reports. The Young MotheVs' study club will hold the annual Easter party for preschool children of members Wednesday, April 13, at 1:30 p. m. Greenwood BEND, OREGON Phone 1770 Motorcyclists Set Climb for Sunday Two national hill climbing champions, John Martlnollch, Portland, and Casey Jones, Eu gene, will headline the list of Motorcycle slant artists appear ing Sunday, April 10, at 1 p. rn. in efforts to climb the steep hill located three and a half miles west of Bend on Ox ranch. The ranch, on the Shevlin park road, is located on the first road north of the "old brickyard." To assist the public in finding the site easily, the road will be marked with arrows, according to local motorcycle fans. Martinolich, the "Oregon rock et," is known throughout the country for his record-breaking feats. He frequently visits other slates, just to "show them how." Hill in Shape Members of Cascade Motor; cycle club, Inc., sponsors of the hill climb, have worked for weeks getting the hill in shape. The high-powered motorcycles hit the hill at. full throttle, sometimes looping, at other times flying over the rough surface, and sometimes climbing near-by trees. Two local riders, Del McNemar and Ralph Mooers, will display their skill on the iron steeds. Winning riders are awarded cov eted points which, at the end of the season, determine who will be eligible to compete for the na tional championship titles.
