Mrs. Randolph Baker was acting worthy matron in the ab sence of Mrs., Mark Howbrook. The past matrons were given star shaped pottery bowls holding growing ivy, which had been planted by Mrs. Howbrook. The past patrons received address books with the Eastern Star em blem. A garden setting was simulat ed for the attractive addenda with trellises, . grass carpeting, daf to tals and a picket fence. Mrs. Bak er arranged the decorations. After the meeting, refreshments were served, with Mrs. Harold Wight man in charge. Past matrons and past patrons of the local chapter who were honored included the following: Mrs. Frank Bockman, Mrs. Hor ace 1 Kicnaros, sr., Airs. Steve Steidl, Mrs. C. C. Taylor, Mrs. J. A. Dudrey, Mrs.- Marion Du buis, Mrs. Chris Kostol, Mrs. Le Roy Fox, Mrs. A. E. Hill, Ran dolph Baker, Sumner Deitrick and J. A. Chamberlin. Allied Arts club will meet Mon day, April 4, at 2 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Carl E. Erickson, 80 Drake road. Mrs. R. S. Hamilton will be in charge of the program, on "U.S. Foreign Policy." District Nurses association will have a dinner meeting Thursday, March 31, at 5:30 p.m. at the Pine Tavern. Afterward, the group has been invited to attend a theater party at the Capitol, as guests of the management. Others who were named include the follow ing: Mrs. Marie Helmbuck, senior vice president; Mrs. Darrell Gib son, junior vice president; Mrs. Elmer Whipple, treasurer; Mrs. William Cjuigley, chaplain; Mrs. Francis Gates, conductress; Mrs. William Selken, guard, and Mrs. J. E. Gough and Mrs. Eva Sand ers, trustees. Appointive officers, to be chos en by the new president, will be announced later. The new offi cers will be installed in April at a ceremony which will be open to the public. ' ' Officers Here To Participate In Meetings Mrs. William B. Chandlee, of Hillsboro, state president of the Oregon Federation of Women's clubs, and Mrs. Emery C. Ingham, of Portland, junior extension chairman, arrived in Bend today to attend the Junior Civic league's Initiation ceremony tonight, and the Sixth district convention to morrow. The initiation will be In the Pine Tavern dining room, follow ing an 8:30 dessert. Earlier, Mrs. Chandlee and Mrs. Ingham will meet with board members at an Informal dinner. A large delegation from Burns and women-from other cities in the district, -which also includes John Day, Klamath Falls, Tuma lo, Redmond and Bend, will be in Bend tomorrow for the conven tion. Registration will be between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. in the library auditorium. The conven tion luncheon will be at 1:15 p.m. in the Pine Tavern. New district officers will be elected. Symons won the danc ing contest, and a prize also went to Jack Symons. A check was being completed today at the school, to determine the net proceeds from the -event. Print Dance Set At Gilchrist byt Griizliettes Gilchrist, March 29 (Special) The Gilchrist Grizzllettes have scheduled the annual "Print Day1 and dance for Friday,- April 1, The court for the festivities will be chosen as in preceding years. Each class chooses a prince and princess as candidates for king and queen. The results of the election will be announced at the dance and the king and queen will reign for the evening. The candidates this year are: Seniors Jacklyn Proke and Jim Van Tassel: juniors Mertie Conklin and Don Greenan; sophomores Patricia Freeman and Bill Ma Jors; freshmen Martha Harris and George Howard. , The committees for the dance will be as follows: Wanda Free man, Jacklyn Proke, Gloria Hyatt, Virginia Garner and Lela Turn er, food; Jo Ann Conklin, Ro berta Anderson, Jean Bragg, and Billle Faye Reid, decorations; Martha Harris, Mildred Nichols, and Barbara Brown, entertain ment. Miss Ramona Morgan, uueen of Bend's Fourth of Julv wa ter pageant in 1947, became the bride of Robert Lawrence Blakely, of Bend, at a beautiful weddinir Saturday evenincr. First Presbyterian church was rites, ana anerwara, a reception was held at the home of the bridegroom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Blakely, at iwt ciasi. iiuru sireeu The bride is the daughter gan, of 1043 Lexington. The impressive double-ring ceremony was. performed at 8 p.m. by Rev. Allan B. Philp, in a setting of candlelight and white stock. Mrs. Don Halli- gan, of Corvallis, was soloist, and Mrs. Clarence Bush was at the organ. Mrs. Halllgan sang "Ave Maria" and "Because." The bride was given in mar riage by her father. She wore a lovely gown ot ivory slipper satin, made In Victorian style, with cord ing defining the fluted neckline, flared wrist-length sleeves and graceful skirt. Her fingertip veil of imported French lace was gath ered to a tiara of seed pearls, and she carried a white Bible with a white Brasso orchid with white streamers and sweet peas. At her throat she wore a pearl necklace that belonged to her mother. Mrs. Vern Singleton was her sister's matron of honor. She wore a gown of white taffeta, with a net inset at the neckline, She car ried a spray of pink Delight roses, and wore a coronet of the same flowers in her hair. Little Vern etta Singleton was junior brides maid, in a frock that was a rep lica of her mother's. She carried a miniature spray of roses, and wore roses in her hair. Bridesmaids in Pink Bridesmaids were Miss Shirley Blakely, sister of the bridegroom Miss Barbara Sue Devereaux, classmate of the bride, and Mrs. H. C. Wallan, the bride's cousin. They wore identical gowns of pink organrty, detailed wltn dropped shoulder line and ruffled bustles. Their flowers were sprays of blue iris and narcissi, which matched their coronets. Michael Hillls was ring bearer. He wore a white suit, and carried the rings on a cushion of satin and lace. Kenneth Blakely acted as best man for his brother. Ushers were Charles Neff, Merle Wescoatt and Vern Singleton. The bride's mother chose an af ternoon dress of black and pastel Dink silk crepe print, with black accessories. The bridegroom's mother was in aqua accented with black and fuchia details and black accessories. Both had gardenia corsages. Many Attend Reception The reception which followed the ceremony was attended by scores of friends and relatives of the bridal .couple. Miss Carolyn Blakely, sister of the bridegroom, cut the cake, assisted by Mrs. William Glazier. Miss Pat Blakely had charge of the guest book, and Miss Shirley Ann Blakely assisted about the rooms. Pat and Carolyn are sisters, and Shirley Ann is I their cousin. i Miss Madelyn Wing and Mrs. 1 Richard Maudlin poured, and Miss Dolores Kaufman strved the punch. Among the guests at the wed- I ding and reception were a number from out-of-town, including sev eral who were home from college : for spring vacation. Mr. and Mrs. , Halligan came for the occasion from Corvallis; Miss Gloria 'Hutchins and Miss Jackie Chute j were here from Salem, and Mlssj 1 Nancy Lusk and Miss Carolyn i Blakely were here from Portlund. On Honeymoon For the wedding trip, the bride wore a white gabardine dress, with a white three-quarter length coat. Her hat and scarf were In foam green, and her other acces sories were in spring tan. Her wedding orchid completed the out fit. Later this week, Mr. and Mrs. Blakely will return to Bend, to make their home at 312 Harrlman. The bride, who was graduated from Bend high school in 1947, -is employed at present at cashier at Penney s store, sue belongs to Beta Sigma Phi social sorority, the Theta Rho club and the Re bekah lodge. Blakely was graduated from Bend high, school in 1944, and served in the army air corps. For three years he attended Oregon State college, where he was affil iated with Alpha Sigma Phi fra ternity. He is employed by Brooks Scanlon, Inc. Degree of Honor officers and drill team will practice at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the V.'.w. hall. All officers and drill team mem bers were urged to be present. UNIT MEETING SET Pine Forest, March 29 (Special) Mrs. George Giskaas will enter tain the Carroll Acres extension unit Friday, April 1, at 1:30 p.m. at her home at No. 5 Hawthorne. The program will include a dis cussion on "Sex Education in the Home." ' The annual election of officers will also be held. Prepar ations will be completed for the Homemakers' day festival April 26 at the Pine Forest grange hall. 'Supremacy Test' Gets Court Rule Washington, March 29 IH The supreme court ruled In effect to day that states cannot legally require citizens to pass a "white supremacy" test In order to vote. Without an opinion, it voted 8 to 1 to affirm a lower court or der Invalidating a provision of Alabama's constitution adopted in 1946. The provision, known as the Boswell amendment, required, prospective voters in Alabama to explain to the satisfaction of elec tion boards any article of the U. S. constitution. A three-judge federal court for the southern district of Alabama declared the provision unconsti tutional. The Mobile county board of election registrars appealed.
