Loyola Favored

New York, March 19 IIP) Loy

of death" by the odds-makers to
day by being made a two-and-a-half
point favorite over San Fran
cisco in tonight's final of the na

nament. A crowd of more than 18,000
was expected to pack Madison
Square Garden to see whether the
Ramblers from the mmwest, lea
by the brilliant pivot-shooting
Jack Kerris, could overcome the
linx that has claimed five of the
favorites in 10 earlier round bat
tles.
Newell Glad
I'm clad to see that Loyola
has been made the favorite," said
coach Pete Newell of San Fran

Dons made their way to the finals
by upsetting third-seeded Utah in
the quarterfinals and favored
Bowling Green in the semifinals.
it was plain wny neitner isew-

Loyola cared for the favorite s
role. The tourney's four-top seed

Utah and western Kentucky all
were ousted in the quarterfinals.
And Bowling Green, which fell
heir to honor of most llkely-to-
succeed, promptly was bounced in
the rovmd-ot-iour.

Invited to the tourney after the
selection committee decided to en
large the field from eight to 12
teams. Loyola reached the title
round by ousting mighty Ken

topping Bradley in the following
round.
The outcome of the game was
expected to hinge on the individ

Evashevski May
Replace Stiner
Portland, March 19 IIP) The
Oregon Journal said last night
that "railbirds" were convinced
that Forrest Evashevski, onetime
University of Michigan all-American
back, will be head football
coach at Oregon State college
"prior to nightfall Saturday."
Oreeon State has been without
a coach since Lon Stiner, veteran
of 16 years, resigned 10 days ago
and school authorities have been
scouring the country for a re.
placement before spring practice
begins. '
Evashevski, present backf ield
coach for Michigan State college,
was greeted here Thursday night
by Oregon State athletic director
Roy S. (Spec) Keene and hustled
off to the Beaver campus at Cor
vallis. Mrs. Evashevski accom
panied Evashevski, who had
agreed to come west and "look
over the situation." "

Agramonte's only winning rounds
were the first and seventh. The
Cuban also was floored for no-
count in the first round, but not
hurt. And he slipped to the can
vas on five different occasions
during the bout, without being hit.
Uma said modestly today, "Aft

Bcrtola, I'll be ready to meet and
beat any heavyweight in' the
world. And that Includes both
Ezzard Charles and Jersey Joe
Walcott."
