In Redmond Hall
Redmond, March 10 (Special)
' The annual district Theta Rho
convention was held Saturday
night at Townsend hall in Red
mond, with decorations In the
St. Patrick's theme providing a
: colorful setting. Approximately
70 "girls attended, -The meeting
'. followed a 5:30 banquet prepared
and served by members of the
Redmond Rebekah lodge. ,
;. After the banquet, a program
was presented, with girls. from
; the various towns represented
taking part. Redmond was repre
. sented by Sharon Moran and El
len Btacey, who gave two dance
numbers, and Carol Henderson,
. who sang a solo. Prairie City of
J fered an accordionist, In four
. solos.
; The welcome, which was writ-
ten in verse by.Arline Loney, was
! given by Delpha Charlesworth,
president of Redmond Theta Rho.
Sherrill Gray, of Bend, gave the
j response.
Mrs. Viola Janes, of Portland,
chairman of the board of control,
was guest of,-honor... While in;
Redmond, she was a guest at the
home of Miss Charlotte Easton.
Mrs. Florence Scott, of Prairie
City, a member of the board of
control, also attended the meet
ing. In a special drill, the Redmond
and Culver clubs presented gifts
to Mrs. Jones,
The 1950 convention will be
held in Prairie City, with Bar
bara Waldon as president. Con
vention officers for this year

ciation, at a dinner meeting Mop
day evening at the Redmond Pine
Tavern. Other officers installed

GARDEN CLUB MEETS
Cloverdale, March 10 (Special)
Mrs.. Bud Sax was hostess to the
Cloverdale garden club Wednes
day afternoon. Twelve members
were present. Budding and spring
care of perennials were the topics
for discussion. Mrs. John Willi
ams displayed a small arrange
ment of violas, with a back-
ground of green poplar sprigs.
After the meeting the hostess
served refreshments.

home of Mrs. Stella Pearl Runge,
adviser, for a "Mad Hatters' par
ty." All members wore hat crea
tions which they made them.

Mi's. Melvin Shirley,' sorority
president, reported that proceeds
from a recent sale of baked goods
will be sent to the state president
as the local chapter's contribution
to the hospital for crippled chil
dren, in Eugene. The sorority has
adopted this hospital for spastic
children as its state project and
is raising funds to provide a schol
arship for one child this year.

Emanuel Hospital
Redmond. March 10 (Special)
Two Redmond high school grad
uates were among 48 members
of the freshman class at Emanuel
hospital school of nursing who re
ceived their caps in a ceremony
Sunday at the Faith Lutheran
church in Portland. 'Miey are
Miss Julia Christiansen, daughter
of Dr. and Mrs. Russell W. Chris
tiansen.' iOf Redmond, and Miss
'Ann Maglund, otCamp Sherman.
Both girls were graduated from
Redmond high school with the
class of 1948.
The greeting was extended by
Paul Hanson, administrator of the
hospital. Rev. Lloyd Jaeobsen,
pastor of St, James Lutheran
church, gave the address. The
presentation of caps was made by
Miss Enola M. Miller, R.N., direc
tor of nurses. Lighting the Flor
ence Nightingale lamp was done
by H. George Randolph, chaplain,
with senior class members tak
ing part in the candle lighting.

Miss Carmen Ferns, bride-elect
of Marvin Dawson, of Redmond,
was honored at a pre-nuptial
shower party, for, which Mrs, Roy
Larson, Mrs. Carey Stearns, Mrs.
D. D. Stolberg and Mrs, John C.
Johnson were co-hostesses last
Thursday afternoon at Mrs, Stol
berg's home. Miss Ferns' wedding
is set for later this month,
The party was attended by
more than 50 friends of the bride
elect. Decorations, carrying out
the shower theme, featured
spring flowers and a gaily deco
rated umbrella. A short program

Mrs. Gholson and Mrs. Clarence
Still, a reading by Mrs, Darrell
Ferns, a vocal solo by Mrs, Still
and a guitar number by Mrs.

Friends of Mr, and Mrs. Rob
ert E. Lyons honored them at a
surprise "housewarming, Monday

East Irving. The Lyons, who were
married last September, occupied
the house recently. Mrs, Lyons
was formerly Francys Llddle,

Harold Roid in
Quiet Ceremony
First Lutheran church was the
scene of an informal wedding
Tuesday evening, when Miss Vir
Virginia Louise Cook became the
bride of Harold Roid. The double,
ring ceremony was performed at ,
8 o'clock by Rev, Carsten Brten,
in the presence of relatives and
close friends of the couple. Bas
kets of carnations decorated the
chancel of the church for the oc
casion.. The bride, a graduate of Bend
high school, is the daughter of
Mrs. Blanche Cook, of 1436 Jack-
sonvllle, and Thomas Cook, oi
Sisters. Roid, who Is also a Bend
high school graduate, served in
the navy In world war II, He Is
employed as a driver for the Owl
Taxi company. His parents are
Mr. and xrs. Jit'itw Hold, of ls
Delaware. '
The bride was given In mar
riage by her father. She wore a
suit of bluebell blue, with grey
accessories and a corsage of gar
denias and pink roses.
Mrs. Nels bklersaa played the
wedding marches and accompan
ied Mrs. Carl Hoogner, who sang
"Because."
Mrs. Donald Fuqua was the
bride's only attendant. She wore
a beige dress, with a corsage of
pink carnations. Jteiter Roid, of
Eugene, acted as best man tor his
brother.
After the ceremony, a reception
for family members and a few
close friends was held at the home
of the bridegroom's parents, Mr,
and Mrs. Reiter Roid and family,
of Eugene, were the only out-of-
town guests.
Mr. and Mrs. Roid left after the
reception on a short wedding trip.
They will be at home next week
in the Klein apartments, on Broad
way.

There was standing room only
last night when the "AH Boy"
class of the First Christian church
presented Its annual program at
the Allen school auditorium, un-!
der the direction of Rev, Len B.
Flshback. Patriotic numbers,
readings, solos, skits and a panto
mime featured the varied pro
gram. Bill Coyner, cornetist, was fea
tured in a patriotic ovenir.z. fol
lowed by a reading and a vocal
solo. .Then came Rudolph s Re
venge." listed as a "metterdram
mer" in which Larry Shaffer, Ed
gar Harlan, Ed Kribs, Ronel
Marsh, Jim Dumler and Melvin
Loy had parts. One of the conclud
ing numbers was a one act mys
tery play, "All In the Dark", with
a pirate cave as the setting. In
this play were Eddie Smith, Bob
Newman, Raymond Goodwill,
George Nelson, Jim Flnley, Dick
Fishback and Rev, Flshback, who
was cast in two different roles.
Musical numbers were Included
In the program, which was enthu
sistically received by the large
group.
