Pays Bank Loans
Redmond, Jan. 20 It was an
nounced here today that as a re
sult of recent refinancing, all out
standing indebtedness of the
Telephone Co. represented by
bond issues has been retired. Al
so, bank loans have been paid off
and $30,000 in additional capital
has been obtained for plant ex
pansion. The Northwest Telephone Co.,
with T. J. Wells in charge locally,
serves six different Oregon com
munities, including Redmond, bis
ters and Culver m Central Ore
gon, and Sheridan, Grande Ronde
and u Ulamina m western ure
win. An orderly expansion of the
entire system is being planned,
Wells indicated. Five of the six
exchanges have dial systems.
Plan Outlined
Refinancing was made possible
through a $150,000 mortgage to
the American United Lite insur
ance Co. This is a 20 year mort
gage, with the principal due in
i9ot. The mortgage was dated
Dec. 30. 1918.
It was indicated that no imme
diate major development project
is planned. In Central Oregon,
the exchanges are comparatively
new. This is especially true in
Redmond and in the rapidly grow
ing Culver section of the lNorth
Unit project.
The Northwest Telephone Co.
in the six communities is owned
by the Wells brothers.

Stocks Go Higher
As Session Ends

New York, Jan. 20 di' Stocks
turned higner as the session drew
to a close today alter Vvall street
had had time to read the presi
dent's inaugural address and de
cide that it was generally help
ful for the market.
Wall street interpretation of the
speech was that It forecast con
tinued large federal expenditures
in the U. b. program ot world aid
and that sucn spending naturally
would bolster tne domestic econ
omy. And since the president said
that continued U. S. prosperity
was a requisite for the program
Wall street 'believed thai meant
a conservative program of busi
ness legislation.
