Biggest Bomber
Adds Transport
To Many Feats
Fort Worth, Tex. HIV The six
enuined B-36, world's largest land
based bomber and one of the
most highly praised ships in the
air force, has added another per
formance possibility.
Little trucks resembling sawed
off wagon beds have increased
the potentialities of the sky giant
operating at the Carswell air
force base here, so that it easily
may be transformed into an air
transport ship.
It can haul some 80,000 pounds
of vital materials to front lines
by using six of the little all-metal
trucks, each capable of carrying
around 14,000 pounds. The trucks
fit into the big bomber's belly like
a finger fits into a glove. Making
things easier still, Ihey can be
hoisted intact through the bomb
bay.
They are standard equipment
when the I3-3G is delivered by Con-solidated-Vultee
Aircraft Corp. A
pair of them is aboard each time
that Convair lets a B-30 go to
work.
Possibilities Great
A typical load for the two cars
would be the bomb racks, hoisting
equipment and loose supplies
needed by the B-36 at its operat
ing bases. (While the B-36 can
use the same length field as a B
21), maintenance equipment pre
sents a difficult problem right
now because of the tremendous
size of the super-bomber.)
Convair officials point out that
the trucks open wide the B-36's
possibilities to supplement exist
ing air cargo facilities when ex
treme range is required, or when
very heavy loads or large equip
ment must be handled.
They add that the cargo car
riers also allow the B-36 to take
along substantial quantities of its

Veterans Change
Meeting Nights
Veterans of Foreign Wars have
announced that their meeting
nights hr.ve been changed to the
second and fourth Fridays of each
month. In the past, the veterans
have met on Tuesday nights.
The second of a series of card
parties will bo sponsored by the
veterans, in the V.F.W. hall on
Bond street, Saturday at 8 p.m.
More than 50 were present for
play last Saturday night.

Furniture Store
Being Remodeled
An extensive remodeling and
renovation program was begun
this week at the Hend Furniture
company that will mean a com
plete modernization of the store,
Otto Lamb, manager, said today.
The balcony is being sealed, mak
ing the second floor space 25 per
cent larger and Identical in size
with the main floor. An office is
being built on the main floor and
new departments fur rugs, floor
coverings, radios and major ap
pliances have been planned.
It will be some time before all
of the work can be completed,

store will be one of the most mod
ern and best arranged in this part
of the slate, he said.

tions to recall three hold-over city
councilmen appeared in Ashland
today, along with the dropping of
a city-wide poll to test sentiment
in the current political battle be
tween Mayor Tom Williams and
the city council.
The Civic Betterment league re
cently initiated recall petitions af
ter the council refused to approve
Mayor Williams' appointments
and reinstated City attorney
Briggs and Chief of police C. C.
Williams, whom the mayor had
suspended.
Councilmen Daugherty, Nosier
and Fischhorne are named in the
recall petitions.
Dr. William Bracket', announc
ing withdrawal of a postcard poll
of all Ashland voters, said the
move would be delayed until after
a decision of the circuit Court in a
suit by the city council asking
clarification of the mayors ap
pointive and suspending powers.
The council stated it would abide
by the decision of the court.
