Braget Couple
Being Held in
Los Angeles Jail
Los Angeles, Dec. 29 (IP Pretty
21-year-old Mrs. Jeanne Braget
and her husband were held in the
county Jail today on suspicion of
kidnaping her three-year-old
uaugnier irom ner nome at Mar
risburg, Pa.
' "I don't see how a person can
be charged with kidnaping her
own child," Mrs. Braget protested
yesterday wiien she ana John
Braget, 34, surrendered voluntar
ily to authorities at Pomona, Cal.
Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Snyder,
parents of Mrs. Braget's former
husband, had complained she took
their granddaughter, Vickie
Jeanne Snyder, for a ride Dec.
20 and never returned. They said
tney naa adopted the child as
their legal daughter.
"Most likely we will fight the
case," Mrs. Braget said. "We
have a great deal to offer Vickie
a home, education and above all
a mother s love.
She said the grandparents per
suaded her to "sign some papers"
without witnesses or notarization
but that she did not know what
she was signing and believed the
adoption was illegal.
MANY VIEW EXHIBIT
More than 2,000 persons visited
the miniature Christmas village
display at the Bend Venetian
Blind Co. over the holidays, Jim
Lanzarotta, manager of the plant,
reported today. The exhibit will
remain open to the public up until
New Year's eve. It will be dis
mantled shortly after the first of
,theycar.
Fire Threatens
Legion Quarters
Prlnevllle, Dec. 29 A fire at a
section of the Barracks building,
just east of the Crook county
court house on Third street,
which called out the local fire
department during the mid-afternoon
of Monday, was quickly
brought under control.
The overheated flue of a wood
heatet ignited a celling, It was
reported. Damage was limited to
effects of water and smoke.
The building is occupied by the
Crook county American Legion
post.

Renata Leblova, 27, formerly of
Praha, Czechoslovakia, and Jonn
Foltyn, 34, a Woodburn mechanic,
were married at 7:30 a.m. today in
St. Luke s Catholic church here,
climaxing a year-long romance by
mall that began when the Czech
girl placed an advertisement In a
Chechoslovakian newspaper.
The advertisement ' said she
would like to write to an Ameri
can boy with the object of matri
mony.
Foltyn answered the advertise
ment and after a year of corre
spondence he sent her money for
plane fare. .
Renata arrived In Portland
Dec. 14.

ciated at the wedding ceremony.
Foltyn's father, John, Sr., 76, who
came from Czechoslovakia 67
years ago, did the necessary In

Boggle and his bride-to-be, former
Wisconsin school teacher Beatrice
Nichols, went excitedly ahead with
plans for their marriage today, to
gether at last after a courtship by
correspondence that began while
he was serving a life sentence for
murder in Washington state pit
son. .
Shy Mrs. Nichols, 42, five feet
tall and with green eyes and dark
hair, and Boggie, 55, "three-time
winner" ex-convict, met for the
first time in the Salem, Ore., bus
depot late Tuesday.
She didn't recognize him. She
walked right past him and his
parents, then was brought back
and Introduced by bus dispatcher
D. G. Porter. Boggle stepped, up
to claim his betrothed, threw his
arms around her, and declared:
"I'll keep her In my arms for
ever." Pardoned Last Week
Boggie was pardoned from the
Washington prison in Walla Walla
last week by Gov. Mon Wallgren

and prison chaplain had believed

Seattle Times recently concluded
a year-long investigation and
Gov. Wallgren granted the pardon

doned by the governors of Ore
gon and Idaho after serving time
on robbery charges in the prisons
of both states.

Mrs. Nichols, who had been vis
iting her sister in Sterling, Colo.,
left immediately for Oregon. She
had become interested in Boggie's
case years ago, and the two had
corresponded while he was In the
Walla Walla prison. Through his
correspondence they had become
engaged) to ' marry when he
should , be pardoned. Neither
doubted he would be.
