New York, Dec. 21 ' The
stock market was Irregular today
with trading under the million
share level.
There was little in the news to
attract the attention of investors,
apart from the federal govern
ment move today in the U. S. su
premo court to establish control
over the Gulf of Mexico tidelands.
With the stock list marking
time, farm commodities moved
sharply higher with grains and
hogs in the lead. Buying In farm
commodities was stimulated by in
creases In export allocations of
fats and oils for the initial 1949
quarter. Lard and soy beans,
both directly affected, were in
best demand.

its propellor 350 miles southeast
of Adak in the Aleutian islands,
The ship was drifting helplessly
but was in no danger. The tug

the blending of nectar from dover
and alfalfa fields and the wild
sagebrush flowers. Anyhow, Mrs.
K. W. Lassen of Portland has re
ported to the local chamber of
commerce that honey produced by
the Ralph Powers apiary here Is
the best she ever ate. '
Mrs. Lassen, who had secured
some of the honey in a Portland
market, wrote to ascertain If she
could order a supply direct. She
wanted it to serve guests on hot
biscuits during the holidays.
Apiarist Powers said he would
see that her guests have good
eating holiday week.

Club Has Party
Madras, Dec. 21 At the week
ly luncheon today members of the
Madras Kiwanis club observed the
annual traditional exchange of
Christmas gifts. In many In
stances gifts received by mem
bers were left with President
Lewis A. Nichol for distribution
to needy of the community, the
purchaser having had such a
course in mind when selecting the
present.
The Madras club found that it
could not accept' an invitation
from the Prinevllle club, present
ed by Art Michel of that city, to
participate in a joint installation
of 1949 officers at Prinevllle.
President Nichols stated that
plans for a local joint installation -at
observance of ladies' night,
scheduled for January 13, had pro
ceeded too far to be interrupted.
