"If people know," he said, "they might think I can't do a man's work." He looks like an average, well groomed 25-year-old man despite the bullet received two and a half years go on Okinawa. The bullet moves up and down as the heart expands and con tracts and an operation would be a serious gamble. A surgeon would have to make an incision in the main wall of the heart as it moves. There have been only a tew similar cases in medical his . tOrV. ,.'.' The veteran spent 10 months In naval hospitals and three times navy surgeons decided to operate and then changed their minds. The bullet, either from a Japan ese machine gun or rifle, entered his right shoulder, glanced off a rib, turned around and entered his heart backwards. Could Pierce Cavity A Columbus surgeon said It could remain where it is or work either way If there Is undue stress. Should it work the one quarter to one-half Inch required to pierce the heart caviety where life-giving blood courses, sudden death might follow.
