Taylor, whose organization, the
Taylor Equipment Co., is spon
soring a Crook county 4-H calf
club, of which Jimmy Holliday is
a member.
Taylor made the remark in re
porting the happy solution of an
incident , at the Crook County
Hereford Breeders' association
here last week when young Hol
liday was a bidder on the 370
pound, unweaned Hereford steer,
which was later purchased at the
record price of 56 cents per pound
by Joe Shown of the Gill Cattle
Co. Holliday dropped out of the
bidding with a final offer of 38
cents. His finances would not
permit him to go farther.
Jess Cain of tne Crooked River
Roundup association heard of the
keen disappointment of young
Holliday at the loss of the little
steer, and when Shown heard
about it, says Taylor, he obsorb
ed the difference between Holi
day's bid of 38 cents and the rec
ord price of 56 cents.
"Now," says Taylor, "Holliday
is proud owner of the calf, which
has already begun to receive a
maximum of attention, and every
cattleman of Crook county is root
ing for his success at Central
Oregon fairs, the state fair and
the Pacific International Live
stock exposition next year."
The little Hereford was con

Fears Hit Stocks

over a new wave of price controls
brought selling Into the stock
market today, and prices fell to
new lows in the general average
since March 29.
Trading picked up on the de
cline. Some of the selling includ
ed evening up operations In ad
vance of the Thanksgiving day
holiday when all financial 'mar
kets will be closed.
Aside from the move In Wash
ington to investigate the need of
controls in line with those re
quested some time ago by presi
dent Truman, the market news in
the main was favorable. It Includ
ed many Increased or extra divi
dends, notably a $1 extra for Un
ion Pacific; higher earnings re
ports; a rise in crude oil prices
by Sinclair-Prairie Oil Co., and a
high rate of industrial produc
tion. Considerable selling was re
ported for tax purposes, notably
in Issues which are around the
year's lows. Not losses amount
ing to as much as 3 points in du

have left their headquarters home
12 miles east of here for Long
Meadow, Mass., to spend Thanks
giving holidays with the families
of Mrs. Wickman's children. In
early December they will sail for
Antigua, British West Indies, for
