Both union and company offi cials cleared the decks for the 10 day negotiation period specified in the new peace formula for set tling the strike. Negotiations were expected to get under way Thurs day. ' Peace talks will Include four of the live original striking unions the CIO Interantional Longshore men and Warehousemen s union, the CIO Marine Cooks and Stew, ards union, the Marine Hadlo Op erators union, the Marino Fire men's union, independent. The fifth union, the CIO Marine Engi neers, signed a separate pact wun employers last month. Groups Listed Employers groups to partici pate in the negotiations will in clude the Waterfront Employers association and the Pacific Amer ican Shipowners association, the San Francisco employers council and the national CIO will act as guarantors of any agreement reached. They were said to desire long term contracts with only periodic reopening of discussions for ad justment of wage scales. The peace formula which will govern future conduct between the unions and employers' groups was drafted in recent meetings between Haywood and Almon W.
