Gains Are Noted
By Elmer C. Walzer
(United 1'reMi l-'inancial Writer)
New York, Nov. 1 UW Stocks
today reached 60 per cent of last
week s oecune on moueruieiy in
erpHqpd volume.
Several reasons were advanced
for the recovery which embraced
a broad list. Approach of the
election brought in some snort
covering.
Also, the recent setback was
seen as strengthening the mor
ket's technical position, opening
the way for a new gain. Then,
too, the foreign news brought out
no new worries.
Industrial production held at a
high rate and employment held
near its record. Steel operations
were scheduled at S8.9 per cent
of capacity, unchanged from last
week. At that level, the Industry
will turn out 1,728,000 net tons of
steel Ingots and castings during
this week.
Commodities, with the excep
tion of hogs, registered moderate
gains.
