2 Colored Stars
May Be on Bench
Reno, Nev., Oct. 21 Ui Two
of the University of Nevada's
stars may be flying to Tulsa to
day just for the ride.
Backfield aces Sherman How
ard and Alva Tabor may have to
sit on the bench Saturday when
their teammates play against
Tulsa university because the
state ot UKtahoma has a law
against colored players appearing
on athletic fields against white
players.
Nevada coach Joe Sheeketski
said Tulsa university officials
had reminded him of the law.
He said there was no definite
commitment made as to the pol
icy to be followed and that he
plans to "meet the situation when
and if it arises."
"I want to make it plain right
now," said Sheeketski, "that Ne
vada is not making any rash
statements about this Issue. I
realize that Tulsa must obey the
laws of its state and I say un
qualifiedly that If we learn in
Tulsa' that Howard and Tabor
can't play, that will end the mat
ter. Will Not Argue
"Even though it takes away
10 or 15 per cent of my team's
playing efficiency, I'm not going
to argue the point. If my boys
can play, I'll be happy. If they
can't, they'll sit on the bench be
side me and help dope out ways
to beat Tulsa."
Howard is Nevada's first string
fullback and Tabor handles the
Wolfpack's T-system plays when
Quarterback Stan Heath is out of
the game.

Rose Bowl Trip
Ban Now Looms.
Ann Arbor, Mich., Oct. 21 li'i
University of Michigan officials
said today they were "definitely"
against any change in Big Nine
rules to allow the Wolverines to
make a trip to the Rose Bowl
again on Jan. 1.
Herbert O. (Fritz) Crlsler,
Michigan's athletic director and
Prof. Ralph W. Algler, Michigan
Big Nine representative, agreed
that it would be a "breach of
faith" to alter the rule which pro
hibits a Big Nine team from go
ing to Pasadena more than once
in throe years.
Some sentiment In favor of a
change sprang up when Michigan
defeated Northwestern last Sat
urday, 28 to 0, and thus became
favored to repeat as Big Nine
champion. But Aigler said "any
of the first five teams" in the Big
Nine would be a worthy representative.
