authority who was to have testi
fied at a hearing on the crash of
a Northwest Airlines plane leap
ed from the window of his third
floor hotel doom today. ,
The CAA official, Ed Ryder,
Washington, D. C, landed head
first on the hood of a parked
automobile and was rushed to a
hospital. Hospital attendants said
they had no statement to make
yet on the extent of his Injuries.
Ryder was chief of the struc
ture section of the CAA. He was
to have testified this afternoon
into the crash of a passenger
plane near here early this fall in
which everyone aboard was kill
ed. Police said Ryder removed the
screen from the window before
jumping. In his hotel room police
reportedly found a note addri-od
to a funeral director. '
