M. to replace a deed heretofore civ- en him by C. L. McCauley, which was lost before it was recorded. Gunfire Marks San Francisco, Oct. 14 (IH Gunfire marked the prolonged oil industry strike Wednesday after the national labor relations board sought to restrain striking CIO members from interfering with workers handling petroleum prod ucts. A bullet was fired at oil truck driver Georgp Edward Martin, 31, Compton, as he drove his tank uuck and trailer in the Los An geles area. A passenger in a late model convertible fired the bullet which shattered the truck's me chanical signal arm, Martin told officers. A heavy stone that crashed through the windshield also was hurled, sending a shower of glass into Martin's face. He escaped with minor face cuts. Action Is Filed Los Angeles sheriff's deputies said the bullet must have been a 43 or .45 caliber. As sporadic disturbances broke out in the San Francisco bav area. Shevlin and daughter, Mrs. Hadgar, left Saturday for Joseph to visit relatives for a few days. Jim Harris, who is attending barber school In Portland, spent the week end visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Harris. Ben Ray, of Portland, was a Sat urday evening visitor at the J. M. Freeman home. Mrs. Richard Bowman was a Redmond shopper Monday. Pat Brown, of Condon, was a Saturday afternoon visitor at the home of J. M. Freeman. Marjean Freeman left Tuesday for Condon, where she will spend a few days visiting her sister, Mrs. Raymond Brawn. Frank Huston, of Portland, one of the two hunters lost over night, was found by Ranger Wayne Gur- ley of Bear Spring station near Clackamas lake. Huston is the son of Mrs. Lee Rowe. Mr. and Mrs. Ferdy Woodward are the parents, of a baby daugh ter, corn Monday, uct. 4, at the St. Charles hospital in Bend. Mr. and Mrs. Lonie Gumm. of Portland, spent the week end at tne Lee Rowe home. They came to get their son. Jlmmv. who has been visiting his grandparents for some time. Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Mr. and Mrs. Denver Law are parents of a son born Wednesday, Oct. 6, at the St. Charles hospital in Bend. E. club Air Force Recalls Colonel Balchen Washington, Oct. 14 IB Col. Bernt Balchen, Arctic flying ex pert, has been recalled to active duty by the air force and will re port to the Alaskan air command "within the next 30 ciays." The 48-year-old Norwegian-born filer served in the air corps from 1941 to 1946. On several occasions he. defied nazi occupation forces and flew into the Scandinavian countries on air transport com mand operations. , ' Since 1946, Belchen has been managing director of the Norwe gian branch of the Scandinavian airline system. - GETS HUGE CHINOOK Gold Beach, Oct 14 ilFu-A 484 pound Chinook, caught by Joseph Leu-Lane, Gold Beach, appeared today to be the winner of the Rogue river salmon derby. Leu Lane caught the big fish at the mouth of the Rogue, where it spills across the sandbar into the ocean. The derby closes tomorrow. will hold a food sale on Saturday, Oct 23, in the front of the S.
