To Better News

market rose today in response to
several items of domestic news
favorable to stocks. Trading was
slow, however, since Wall street
tomorrow will resume oaturaay
short sessions for the whiter and
traders can plan on additional
trading time.
Early dealings were teaturea
bv a rise In non-ferrous metals on
the heels of a disclosure that the
British supply ministry will
raise its buying price on zinc,
lead, copper and aluminum.
There was a small setback In that
group, however, before the close.
Late demand was based on tne
application of the railroads for a
further rise of eight per cent in
freight rates and the action of
Barnsdall Oil Co. in raising its
price for crude oil. Oil industry
leaders looked on this announce
ment as a forerunner of a gen
eral price rise by the refiners.
The light volume was an indi
cation too, Wall street quarters
said, of a cautious attitude with
respect to the still volatile Berlin
situation.
