Stock Prices Sag Irregularly New York, Sept. 23 lUi Stock prices sagged irregularly today as Wall street turned back to the sidelines after two sessions of price advances. Caution reflected primarily concern over the foreign situation but there also has been attention given to recurring talk of buy ers' markets, especially in such a field as textiles. As the list slipped back, trading dwindled and activity for the first four hours was at a pace of bare ly 500,000 shares for a full ses sion. Such contraction of vol ume In a declining market, how ever, is interpreted favorably by market analysts. Business news generally at tracted little attention, apart from announcement that Brlggs Man-' uiacturing s striKe had been set tled and a forecast of increased fourth quarter cajloadings In the Alleghany region. This predic tion came on the heels of a rise in totul U. S. carloadlngs lor the post-holiday week ended Sept 18, in which there was a -galh of izi.uoj cars to vuy, ijj. This is two per cent increase as compared with the previous montn s estimate. Na tionally this estimate indicates ' a crop about nine per cent larger than last year and nearly seven per cent above average. - According to this recent crop estimate most of the change Indi cated Is for the states of Maine and New York where the crop is now better than was expected earlier, . The estimates for Oregon, Washington and Idaho, according to this September crop report, ar e unchanged from the August re port Compared to last year the crop In Oregon is expected to 'be about ten per cent larger, fifteen per cent larger In Washington, and thirty per cent larger In Ida ho. The report from the exten sion service and USDA indicates, however, the Idaho crop was com parltlvely small last year and is only a little above average this year.
