There is a newer look for this fall which makes the most of the best features of last year's revO' lutionary and truly named "new look." . American women are always eager to accept departures in fashion design but they must be flatteringly wearable . for the many not the limited lew. so it Is that in catering to the demand for reasonable clothes, that de signers have calmed and modified . the extremes of '47 Into the love ly fashions of '48-'49. Streamlining has proved too good a thing for the American woman's figure for her to be will ing to give it up and in keeping with it, .the longer skirt has won her devotion now that much ex cess bulk has been taken out of it. For general daytime wear 12 and 13 inches from the floor is wide ly accepted, while for afternoon and evening wear ankle length or at the most 10 Inches from the floor looks right. . Great delight is being taken in the creation of dresses which make no pretense at being "suits" or "costumes." They are rich' in infinite detail and prove a lovely revelation when uncovered by the removal of one of the season's handsome coats, The slender dress under a long fully flared coat is the ' typi cal'r fashion of the season ahead. At the most, dress skirts are two yards wide around the nemiine. while the devices of . straight fronts with all fullness worked Into back treatments of pleats or flares give the illusion oi narrow ness. It has taken a few seasons to win acceptance, but the natural shoulder without benefit of pad ding (or Just a little) is coming into its own. Very interesting is the seamless shoulder which so aptly carries, out the narrower silhouette because it is logically in line with the narrower sleeve the close cap-like hairdo and smaller hat. Coats frequently flare at back, and the box and princess silhou ettes are beautifully done. Best liked dress colors are li queur green, purple, old gold, deep gray, gingery browns and blues of turquoise and peacock dues. Coat and suit colors favor forest greens, earthy browns, gravs and wines. . The type of clothes the women of this country consider the basis of their wardrobe Is as at home in town as In the country. And the approaching fall and winter will see many tweeds and knitted fashions of spectator mien. Dress es, suits and coats all of which ire also very appropriate for travel comprise a very particu lar and popular proportion of wardrobe selection.. Color Card ' The thing that makes the classic fabrics look new is all in the color ing! Grays are darker, greens and reds have, blackish undertones, and the clay shades are so smart. Navy is fast becoming a year round color, appearing in many fall and winter lines, often con trasted with cocoa brown to great advantage. Whether you loved or resisted the "new look" of 12 months ago you'll quickly take to the newer look of fall and winter '48-'49. Be cause clothes have never held a richer promise of beauty and flat tery for every woman on every American scene.
