Mrs. W. E. Naylor Is the new
champion for the ladies golf club,
it was announced toduy. She de
feated Mrs. W. A. Lackaff in the
championship play-off just com
pleted. Mrs. O. M. Marshall and Mrs.
Arthur Stipe, Jr., are still to play
their match in the first flight.
Mrs. Roderick O'Hearn was win
ner of the second flight.
The following women were win
ners in the eclectic tournament:

George Thompson, first flight;
Mrs. Loyde Blakley and Mrs. Ar
thur Stipe, Jr., second flight, and
Mrs. Robert Wetle and Mrs. W.

Meeting In Terrebonne

a joint meeting of the Redmond
: and Terrebonne lodges, honoring
Mrs. Christine Smith, of Lebanon,
. president of the Rebekah assem
bly of Oregon.
f In the local group were Mrs.
. Minnie Lemke, Mrs. M. B. Smith,
Mrs. Ruth Barnes, Mrs. D. G. Ray
mond and Mrs. C. E. Hein, all of
the Bend lodge, and Mrs. Idamae
Faria, of Berkeley Rebekah lodge.
Trips Are Planned
For Members of
Eastern Star
At their meeting Monday eve
ning at the Masonic temple, East
ern Star members made plans for
attending a district meeting
Thursday, September 23, In Prine
villp. The occasion will be the of
ficial visit of -the worthy grand
matron, Mrs. lima Thum, of Cot
tage Grove. The Bend group will
leave Bend by special bus at 6:30
p.m. next Thursday, to return
about midnight. Any chapter
member may make reservations
for the trip by calling Mrs. James
A. Chamberlin, 25-F-3, it was an
nounced. Another affair In which local
Stars will participate Is a party to
be held Saturday night in Madras,
honoring Mrs. Louise Irving, of
Madras, grand Ruth of the grand
chapter of Oregon. Local people
who plan to attend will arrange
their own transportation.
. Plans were also made for a
rummage sale, to be held October
8 and 9 in the Pacific Power and
Light company office. Mrs.
-George L. Conklin was named
chairman. Contributions will be
collected at the Masonic hall by
Mrs. C. E. Kernick.
Young Mothers study club will
meet Monday, September 20, at 8
p.m. at the home of Mrs. Don Rat
llff, 1530 West Fourth, with Mi's.
Arthur E. May, Jr., co-hostess.
The annual business meeting will
be held, and reports will be given.

Hi-Jinx Party
To Be Festive
Dancing, with music by Ernie
Traxler's orchestra, will be includ
ed in the entertainment at the
Bend Golf club's annual Hi-JiiHC
party, Saturday night nt the coun-,
try club. Members and' their
guests will join in the affair, with
a large group expected to attend.
Carnival-type concessions and spe
cial entertainment are being pla i
ned for the occasion, under the di
rection of Mrs. W. H. Myers.

Vows Exchanged

(Special) Miss Joyce Huffman,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale
Huffman, of Aumsville, and Stan
ley C. Pownlng, son of Mr. and
Mrs. S. V. Powning, of Bend, said
their marriage vows Monday at
3:30 p.m. in south Salem. Rev. D.
L. Penhollow, pastor of the Pow
ell Butte community Christian
church, read the ceremony in the
lovely garden of Mr. and Mrs.
W. G. Hlgglnbotham's country
home.
The bride wore white marqui
sette and carried a prayer book
with an orchid. In her hair was
a band of "stephanotls. Shewus
given In marriage by her father
and was attended by her sister
Greta, who wore a pastel blue for
mal with a gardenia and rose cor
sage. The bridegroom was attended
by Dale Knorr, of Redmond.
An Informal reception for rela
tives and close friends was held
immediately after the ceremony.
Mrs. Steve Goldade of Oregon
City, poured and Mrs. Hlgginboth
am cut and served the cake.
Out of town guests present at
the ceremony included the bride
groom's parents, Mr. and Mrs. S.
V. Powning and children, Connie
and Stephen; of Bend, his grand
parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. M. Leon
ard, of Bend, and his aunt, Mrs.
R. C. Richards of Roseville, Cal
ifornia; Mr. and Mrs. Steve Gold
ade, of Oregon City, the bride's
uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. John
Main, of Tillamook, and Rev. and

and Jim.
The bridal couple left after the
deception on a brief honeymoon
trip to southern Washington. Both
young people were graduated
from Redmond high school with
the class of 1948. They will make
their home in Bend.

planned for October 10 at First
Methodist church.

The first fall meeting of Des
chutes chapter. Daughters of the
American Revolution, was held
Monday at the country home of
the regent, Mrs. G. A. Edwards.
After the business meeting, Mrs.
Edwards conducted an open for
um on international relations.
Other officers of the group are
Mrs. Alda McMlckle, vice regent;
Mrs. J. R. Roberts, treasurer;
Mrs. August Anderson, recording
secretary; Mrs. C H. Twin,' cor
responding secretary; Mrs. Dean
Van Matre, chaplain, and Mrs.
