India Is Accused
Of Aggressive Act
London, Sept. 15 HP India has
committed an "act of aggression"
In attacking Hyderabad, former
Foreign secretary Anthony Eden
told the house of commons today.
Speaking for the conservative
opposition, Eden touched on the
Indian question after a breaf gen
eral statement in wnicn ne saia
that international affairs are go
ing from bad to worse, with rela
tlons between Russia and the
western powers becoming increas
ingly tense.
Of the Indian situation, he said:
"It does seem Impossible to us
to come to any other conclusion
than that the invasion of Hydera
bad Is in fact an act of aggres
sion." Warning that the Hyderabad
fighting might lead to warfare
among India's religious groups
and spread bloodshed over the
whole subcontinent, he urged that
Britain seek quick United Nations
Intervention.
The UN security council, he
said, should act to halt the fight;
ing and then arrange for a plebi
scite In Hyderabad on union with
India.
Alaskan Parcel
Post Rates Cut
Washington. Sept. 15 (U'i Par
cel post users In Alaska will save
some money beginning today.
The post oilice department has
put the rates there on a mileage
basis like the eight-zone system
effective in the states.
Up to now Alaskans sending
packages anywhere within the
territory had to pay at the high
est, or eighth-zone rate, no mat
ter what the distance. The charge
was based on difficulty of trans
portation, which is not so serious
now as it used to be, the depart
ment said.
Up to toddy it cost 61 cents
to mail a five-pound package
from one point to another in Alas
ka, regardless of distance. The
charge for a 15-pound package
was $1.74. Now the five-pound
package will cost only 14 cents
within a 150-mile radius (1st and
2nd zones). To send a 15-pound
package the same distance will
cost 25 cents.
Charges within the fifth zone
(600 to 1,000 miles) will be 34
cents for the five-pound package
and 89 cents for the 15-pound
package. -
