Second Hurricane
Listed as 'Weak'
Miami Fla.. Sept. 2 (IP) The
second tropical storm in a week
moved across the hurricane belt
toward Puerto Rico today, but the
weather bureau here described it
as "very weak" and offering little
danger unless "considerable Inten
sification occurs."
Highest winds at the storm's
center were clocked at 35 miles
per hour and the blow had grown
no stronger in the past 36 hours.
It was centered late last night
about 260 miles south-southeast of
Ponce, Puerto Rico; moving in a
west-northwesterly direction.
Ships in Its path were ordered to
proceed with caution and "all in
terests" were warned to remain
alert for further advisories.
Weather forecasters would not
speculate on the hurricane possi
bilities of the storm. It would
have to gain considerable vinlance
before its winds would reach the
75-mile per hour force considered
hurricane strength.

Cigar Band Collector
Has 50,000 Specimens
Chicago lU'i Gilbert Buillow,
a 33-ycar-old non-smoker from
West Allis, Wis., probably is the
cigar band king of the country.
He has a collection of 50,000
spcclments and is president of the
international uigar uunci society.
Budlow said he started his col
lection from a group of bands his
mother had left over from a turn-of-the-century
fad pasting them
on glass ash trays, mirrors and
vases. Present day collectors
scorn such practices and keep
their collections in neat loose
leaf notebooks.
The collection was built up
through trades, contacts with
cigar makers and plain butt snip
ping, l ve found some ol my
rarest bands on curb stones and
golf courses," Budlow confided.

Big Forest Blaze
Big Basin, Calif., Sept. 2 IP
More than 350 fire fighters today
were battling a 2,400-acre forest
fire racing out of control toward
10,000 acres of virgin redwoods
in the Big Basin state park.
An estimated 2,000 summer
campers were ordered, out of the
park yesterday, but later were
allowed to return for personal be
longings, which many of them
left In their hurry to clear the
danger area. ,
Park warden Cal W. Livey said
the park would be closed until
the fire could be controlled.
About 250 state and national
forestry men and volunteers, plus
100 convicts rushed from a near
by prison farm, were struggling
to check the blaze, which rangers
said was the worst In Santa Cruz
county In a decade.
They said the nearest homes in
danger were about five miles
away, and a sawmill also was
reported to be in the path of
the fire.
At one point the flames came
within a half-mile of the park
but a shift in the wind saved the
redwoods temporarily. Another
wind shift could still send the
fire raging into the precious tlm-
oer.
