Registration will be conducted
between 8 and 11 a.m. on Aug.
14. Any flowers accepted after
11 a.m. will not be judged but
may be exhibited. The flowers
must be locally grown but they
need not have been raised by the
;xhibltor. Only one entry will be
accepted per person in each
section. Exhibitors must bring
their own containers. There is
a total of 14 sections in this-year's
show.

upper meadows of Shevlin park.

lieu, who are leaving Bend.
Mrs. and Mrs. Ordway and his
daughter, Mrs. Beaulieu, plan to
leave next Wednesday for Cali
fornia to seek a location. They
have sold their home at 358 East
Marshall to Mr. and Mrs. Ted
Sprague. Ordway has been em
ployed by The Shevlin-Hixon
company for the past 29 years as
a warehouseman. He is chang
ing location for health reasons,
he said.

sion unit met Friday at the home
of Mrs. Vernon Stevenson. Eigh
teen members and one guest
were present. Miss Ruth Shelton,
county home demonstration
agent, attended the meeting and
helped the group plan its year's
activities.

Terrebonne-. The couple will lie
married in October.
Churches to Hold
Picnic Sunday
Members and friends of
Churches of Christ of Bend and
Madras will join in a picnic Sun
day at 12:30 p.m. in Drake park,
followed by a service at 2:30 p.m.
at the local church, at 554 New
port, according to Rev. Charles
W. Anderson, who said that the
Madras church is holding morn
ing services an hour earlier, in
order that the members may par
ticipate in the affair.
The service at the church will
feature a song-fest and a ser
mon by Rev. Albert Smith, of
Corvallis, guest evangelist, who is
conducting a series of special
gospel meetings at the church.
Services were well attended this
week, it was reported, and will
extend through next week, end
ing Sunday, August 29.

MANAGER RESIGNS
Grants Pass, Aug. 21 IV City
manager V. C. Signor has resign
ed his post, Mayor Morris Mil
bank announced today. Milbank
said his resignation is effective
Sept. 15 and that Signor has ac
cepted an engineering position
with an Arizona contracting firm.
He had served' as city manager
of Grants Pass for two years.

as they have sold their ranch.

' J. L. Jones, leader of the North
Tumalo Camp Cookery club, took
his club members to Tumalo
falls Wednesday evening for an
overnight camping trip. Those
making the trip were: Jeannie
Lewis, Joyce Meyers, Betty An
liker, Marilyn, Sally, Phyllis and
Philip Gillespie, Gordon McCul
loch and Jimmy Jones.
Mr. and Mrs. Norval Grubb
visited last week at the home
of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. O.
W. Grubb. Grubb has been trans
ferred to Portland from Illinois
where he and his wife have been
the past year.
The T. W, Vandevert home was
struck by lightning three miles
east of Bend in the big electric
storm that hit Bend h week ago
Sunday. Their radio was wrecked
and other damage to the side of
the house was done, where the
lightning entered. The rain put
out the fire on the outside of the
house. . .
Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Collins are
returning the last of this week
from a week's vacation at the
beach. They were accompanied
on the trip by Mrs. Collins' moth
er and sister, Mrs. J. P. Craw
ford and Miss Faye Crawford, of
Bend.

Leaves for Alaska
Tumalo, Aug. 21 (Special)
Mr. and Mrs. James o Neil and
daughters, Joan, Patricia and Sue,
lift this week by truck for Fair
banks, Alaska, where (hey will
make their home.
The O'Nells sold their ranch
here to a party from Sclo and
Tuesday of this week they held a
joint public auction sale with
Dewey Crum and disposed of
their machinery, livestock and
most of their furniture.
They are making the trip to
Alaska over the Alcan highway
and expect , to be on the road
about three weeks. They took
camping equipment.
Woodward, Okla., was estab
lished Sept. 16, 1893, and had a
population of 5,000 residents be
fore sundown of the first day
of Its existence.

stock brand Inspections have Just
been resumed throughout Central
Oregon, according to word from
M, E. Knickerbocker, chief of the
division of animal Industry of the
state department of agriculture at
Salem.
He announced the following

have been appointed and are now
serving Central Oregon.

Lack of funds caused suspen
sion of all brand inspections on
livestock movement on June 23.
Resumption of this service and
the introduction of inspection at
slaughter-houses have been made
possible by an emergency appro
priation granted earlier this
month by the state emergency
board following a conference with
livestock leaders and department

1901 Car Tangles
With Log Truck

Locomobile and a 1940 Interna
tional log truck tangled three
miles west of here last night and,
as could be expected, the log
truck won.
Ralph Jacob Wortman, Mc
Minnvllle, was steering his 47-year-old
steam driven Locomobile
which was being towed by a car
driven by his wife.
He was attempting to retrace
the route from McMinnville to
Tillamook when the steamer de
veloped boiler trouble.
His wife pulled her car to the
side of the road to let faster traf
fic by when the towline jerked
and hurled the Locomobile into
the path of the truck driven by
Dolan G. Hapar, Grande Rondo.
Wortman was not injured, po
lice said. He plans to rebuilt the
old car. :
