H. Dever At a candlelight ceremony in the first Baptist church Friday evening, Miss Bernlee Washburn, daughter ol Mr. and Mrs. Toni Washburn, of Bend, became the hride of David Harvey Dever, son of Mrs. E. E. Dixon, Temple City, CRev. Kenneth Tobias read the tingle ring ceremony. The tradi tional wedding music was played by Mrs. T. D. Sexton, at the organ. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore white gabardine with a pink rose corsage. She carried a white Bible. Miss Bonnie Duncan, of Port land was maid of honor. Harold B Dever, Temple City, brother of the bridegroom, was best man. Following the ceremony, a wed ding dinner was held at the Pino tavern. The couple left Immedi ately for a short wedding trip to southern California. They will be at home in Los Angeles. Out-of-town guests included the bridegroom's mother, Mrs. E. E. Dixon, and Miss Donna Ketchum, of Portland. The bride is a graduate of Bend high school in the class of 1938. She later was graduated from the Northwestern Commercial school in Portland and has been employ ed in that citv since her gradua tion. The bridegroom served sev en years in the United States navy as a radio technician. Women's Council Gives Quarterly Birthday Party The women's council of the First Christian church mot at the church for their quarterly birth day luncheon Thursday. Seven women whose birthdays are in June, July or August, were hon ored. The table was decorated with bowls of sweet peas and a large birthday cake. Mrs. Walter Daum gave a re port on the Turner convention. Mrs. Robert ' Breckenridge read the lesson, with Mrs. Cecil Moore giving the devotions. About 19 members were in attendance. . BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED Pleasant Ridge, Aug. 7 (Spe cial) W. E. Curtis, father of Mrs. J. T. Toney Redmond, Aug. 7 (Spxiall Miss Merle Jordan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Jordan, and Robert Tonev. son of Mr. and Mrs. James Toney, were married last Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Bap tist church. Rev. Alvin Fast lead the double-ring ceremony. Walter Naff sang "Always," and Rev. D. L. Penhollow sang "Because." They were accom nanied bv Mrs. Walter Naff, who also played the traditional wed ding .music. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wove a dusty-rose dressmaker suit. Matron of hon or, Mi's. Sheldon Hawes, wore a white suit. Bridesmaids were Miss Beatrice Eaton and MisS Carol Worth, who chose aqua suits. Best man was Sheldon Hawes and ushers were Earl Arnsmeier and Bill Mayfield. Following the 'ceremony, a re ception was held in the church parlors. The couple is now on a honeymoon trip to the Oregon coast. Ceremony Read Lapine, Aug. 7 (Special) Miss Sylvia Reed, daughter of- Fred Reed, and Herbert Shields, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Shields, were married at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the home of Rev. L. B. Fishback, in Bend. Rev. Fishback read the ceremony. Only close relatives were pres ent at the rites and the couple had no attendants. The bride wore a green suit with white accessories and car ried a bouquet of gardenias. 'Mr. and Mrs. Shields both at tended school in Lapine, and the bridegroom saw service overseas during the war. G. Springer, club president, has an-' nouneed. Quick silver operations In the area will be visited and members making the trip will have an opportunity to collect minerals. Quartz-filled geodes have been found in this area and several petrified wood localities are known. Howard H. Jonno will be trip leader. All persons Interested In collecting minerals will be wel come to join in the outing, re gardless of club membership, Springer stressed. Lunches are to be taken, with the club to sup ply coffee. The group will start from the Bend post office Sunday morn ing, at 9 o'clock. The Bear creek region is just east of the Des chutes county line. Company Formed For McNary Dam Portland, Aug. 7 iU'i Portland district engineer Col, O. E. Walsh announced yesterday that three construction firms had merged to undertake Initial work on the Mc Nary dam. Walsh said the combining firms were the Guy F. Atkinson Co., Ostrander Construction Co., and the J. A. Jones Construction Co.
