Cooperating with the experiment station in the project are the O.S.C. exten sion service, Oregon State depart ment of agriculture and selected terminal markets and retail stores in the Chicago area. Inspections Made Licensed state and federal, in spectors from the department of agriculture inspect the potatoes before they are loaded into the car, when they are unloaded at the terminal market and when they are placed on display in the retail stores. This inspection procedure reveals at what point in the shipper-to-consumer, cycle mat principal deterioration oc curs and will be used as the basis for improvement of shipping and marketing practices. .- George B. Bend Band Will Play af Prineville The Bend municipal band, wnicn will be presented In an open-air concert at 8 p.m. tonight in Drake park, will furnish music at the Crooked River roundup at hrinevuie August 21 and J.Z, and will march in the Saturday morn ing parade which will open the festivities, Don P. Pence, director, announced today. Band caps have been ordered for the musicians, and it is ex pected that they will be received In time for the Prineville appear ance, Pence said. Aged Cow at 28 Gives Birth to 26th Calf Ripley, ' Me. tin A 28-year-old cow (equivalent to a human be ing 90 years old) has given birth to its 26th calf. The cow's owner. Mrs. Lila Vitam,- thinks the animal is the oldest in Maine and possibly one of the oldest in the nation. Several weeks ago the cow was giving 10 quarts of milk a day. P. Mel ton can milk papayas as well as cows. . Melton reports that a 10-acre plot of papaya, a tropical fruit, has yielded gallons of milk which is dehydrated into papeln, an ex pensive chemical. Milking is accomllshed simply by running a pointed stick or in strument up and down on the skin of the fruit. Little droplets of white "milk" quickly run down the marks. Milking In no way harms 'the fruit itself, which later can be sold as fresh fruit or processed Into papaya Jam and Jelly.
