Bowling In the singles sweepstakes held at the Cascade bowl last Satur day, Fred Baughn came through with the winning score. Baughn had games of 174165-187 and finished off with a 210, to ease out Richard Christianson who captured second place. Christianson had one game of 196 to barely win over Kay Stout who was third. Kay Stout had as her high game a very credible 194. All of these scores are schatch scores and do not include the handicap. The mixed doubles held Sunday night, saw all of the leaders falter, Alice and John Janzig scored the major upset of the evening by I taking Nora and Paul Loree for I two games and total pins. After having lost the four opening games last week, Dorotljy and Dave Altier had a real bowling match with Bette Wallan and Fred Grindle, winning ' three points from them. Lorena and Grady Goldman won three points from Kay Stout and her son, Bill Whaley Jr. Mrs. Stout, however, led the women's scoring with a high game of 193 and high series of 537. Juanita and Ernie Huffman met with a stalemate in Julia and Ted Coul ter, each winning two points. Dave Altier had high game of the evening with a 223, beating out Ernest Huffman by one pin, Huff man having a 220. Lightning Hits Cascade Range ' Portland, Aug. 2 IP Lightning storms struck along the Cascade mountains from Diamond lake in southern Oregon to Seattle, Wash., yesterday, starting at least seven forest fires and de luging one camp with a cloud burst. A mid-summer heat wave kept most Pacific northwest tempera tures, except for coastal points, in the high 80's and 90's. Policeman's Wife Killed at Portland Portland, Aug. 2 1P Mrs. June Buzzell, 22, wife of policeman Ross H. Buzzell, died yesterday from a gunshot wound received accidentally when her husband at tempted to halt an urgument in a tavern. A bullet from Buzzells service revolver struck Mrs. Buzzell in the forehead last night when he became involved in the argument with four men. She died in a Fort ldnd hosuital. Two of the men, Keith Nelson Matheny, 24, and Joseph Ernst, Jr., 30, were jailed without bail as material witnesses while police searched for the others. Witnesses said Zuzzcll attempt ed to quiet the men and flourished his revolver as a warning. The weapon fired when one of the men grabbed the policeman from be hind. They said prices would climb if meat-on-thc-hoof became scarcer. Small receipts Friday sent hog prices soaring to the highest level in history at Chicago and other corn belt markets. Cattle sup plies also were light. Chicago wholesalers predicted that their prices would reverse a downward trend and bounce back up under the impact of the record livestock quotations. They expected their boosts to be reflected in increases of one to two cents a pound on the re tail level by the end of the week. The raise is expected despite srong consumer resistance. Maw of Utah who said he was ready to swear under oath that Dewey made critical re marks of action by organized teacher groups.
