Snake Expert Dies

She had survived previous bites
by a cobra and rattlesnakes.
Mrs. Wiley kept 125 reptiles at
"Tier home. She let them coll
around her and called them
! "honey" and "cutle pie." She was
J proud of the fact that she never
removed their poison sacs, say
ing: "A snake will lose its fear of
people much faster than a per
son will lose his fear of snakes."
The snake that bit her was a
stranger, one of 20 deadly reptil
es she Imported last month for
sale from the Grace Wiley zoo
which she operated here. She was
working with Mr. and Mrs. Daniel
Mannix, Mallbu, Calif., for illus
trations for a magazine article
they planned on her.
Toastmasters
Hold Meeting
Toastmasters holding their
weekly dinner meeting last night
at the Pine Tavern "talked shop,"
with speakers discussing subjects
ranging from voice training to
hand gestures. Bill Mark presided
as toastmaster, with Vance Coy
ner in charge of the table topics
part of the program.
One-minute speakers discussed
'The Man Next Door," with each
member of the club called on to
introduce the man at his right as
"the speaker of the evening."
Five minute speakers and their
subjects follow:
Clarence Bush, "Functions of a
Toastmasters' Club"; Dave Wil
son, Functions of an Evaluator";
Ralph W. Crawford, "The Voice
In Speaking"; Claude Cook, "Val
ue of Diction"; Jack Halbrook,
"Gestures." Departing from the
theme, Eugene Bucknum was
presented in a five-minute talk
dealing with the life of a mortician.

Joe Slate- and Harry Drew. Fred
Paine was presented in an im
promptu five-minute talk and re
ported on his conference with
area officials of the Toastmast
ers' club at Hart mountain this
past week end.

erees will be welcome, the com
mittee in eharge reported. No
greens fees will be charged non
gold club member contestants.
However, there will be an over
all charge that will cover the
turkey dinner and incidentals.
Rental sets of clubs will be avail
able. Dr. Grant Skinner has
been named finance chairman for
