for London.
Headed by a powerful C5-man
track and field squad, teams in
nine sports were scheduled to
face expert processing crews on
the first day of paper work on
which passports, British visas,
Identity cards, uniform measure
ments and biographical data will
be churned out on a mass produc
tion basis.
353 Will Sail
A toial of 353 competitors were
expected to go through the mill.
The first Rroup of 319 will sail on
the 'America and the remainder
will follow Friday on Ihe Queen
Elizabeth or by air. Swimming
and water polo teams will fly.
The United States will partici
pate in 17 sports during the 14th
modern Olympiad July 9-August
14, unless a last-minute drive for
funds falls short of the goal.
The makeup of all but one of
the teams already Is known. The
women's track and field final was
scheduled today at Providence, R.
I.
George Rasmussen, Bend, failed
in his try for a place? on the 1948
Olympic team and is now en route
home. Rasmussen, University of
Oregon pole vaulter. cleared the
high bar at 13 feet 614 inches, in
a five-way tie for sixth place.

Lloyd G. Abrams, yesterday on
the local golf course, gave him his
first hole-in-one in 10 years of
! golfing, and won for him the dis-

course this season.
Using a number 8 iron, Abrams
landed the ball in the cup with a
beautiful shot from the tee on the
91-yard 16th hole, on his second

Mystery Plane
Strikes Building
San Antonio, Tex., July 12 '111
Official secrecy today cloaked the
identity of a "mystery plane"
which crashed Into an apartment
building and killed two persons
after a wild flight across town.
The plane zoomed low over the
downtown area shortly after mid
night Sunday, scranlng a dozen
buildings and narrowly missing
two hospitals. When it cvashed
Into the apartment building it ex
ploded and set fire, to the building
and two other dwellings.
