L. Pierce as chairman. The new organization Is the result of action taken at last week's "vic tory dinner" at the Pilot Butte inn. Primary objective of the new organization will be to continue efforts for the development of the Memorial Medical center ami &t. Charles hospital and the Central Oregon Hospitals foundation. Alaskan Highway Urged by Beck Bellingham, Wash., July 1 mi Strengthening Alaska's defenses and building a highway to the territory should be a top priority project In building the nation's defenses, Teamster Dave Beck said here yesterday. Speaking at a western confer ence of the Teamsters' union, in ternational vice president Beck said the highway also would fos ter trade between the United States and Alaska and Increase employment. Beck commented that the Alcan highway which connects Canada and the United States is a good thing, but added that the Pacific northwest has no direct link with Alaska except by water. During yesterday's session, more than 500 delegates from 11 western states, Alaska, Hawaii and British Columbia, caucused on organizational subjects. The conference closes Friday.
