Party Brings
News of Troth
Announcement of the engage
ment of Miss Louise Tekampe,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman
Tekampe, 334 Colorado, to Duane
Hamby was made Tuesday eve
ning at a party at the home ot
Mr. and Mrs. Lewis M. Lancaster.
" Hamby is the son of Mr.- and
Mrs. W. V. Hamby, 587 Green
wood. The announcement was mado
by Miss Tekampe's sister, Mrs.
Vernon Leverett, In a room deco
rated with pink and blue crep
paper, and flowers In pastel
I shades. Refreshments consisted
of a large cake bearing the names
of the couple, sandwiches and
punch.
Miss Tekampe and Hamby are
kJ- both graduates of Bend high
school In the class of 1947. Ham
by has since attended Oregon
State college and been associat
ed with his father in the con
struction business. Miss Tekame
is employed at the Square-Deal
Furniture company.
Hamby will leave today for
two-years' service with the army.
The wedding date has not yet
been set.
The couple received a gift of'
crystal stem-ware from the 45
guests in attendance.

Golf club sports dance will be
neia July 3 at the country club
following the water pageant,
Dancing hours will be from 11'
p.m. to 2 a.m. Members and out-of-town
guests are invited. Music
will be provided by Ernie Traxler
and his orchestra. The committee
consists of Mr. and Mrs. E. L.
Nielsen, Mr. and Mrs. Avery
Orimsley, Mr. and Mrs. Carl
Erickson, and Mr. and Mrs. Carl
Hoogner.
Degree of Honor lodge will hold
an executive meeting Tuesday at
8 p.m. at the home of Mrs. Del
bert Staples, 1362 Albany.
B.D.W. club will meet with Mrs.
Harry Monical, 371 Columbia, on
July 7.

Friends of Miss Lucy Davison
and Elmer Mullins are Invited to
an open-house at Miss Davison's
home, 1118 East Eighth street,
on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. Miss'
Davison and Mullins will be wed
Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Trinity
Episcopal church.
Second Birthday
Feted at Party
A birthday party honoring Da
vid Gibson, of San Francisco, on
the occasion of his second birth
day was given Wednesday after
noon at the home of his grand
parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Has
son, 1116 Portland. Beverly Has-
son and Bobbie Lou Harris were
the hostesses.
The table:; center-piece was a
large decorated birthday cake in
the form of a lamb. The honored
guest received many gifts.
Guests were Sonnie and Bonnie
Branson, Charles Rlddenbusch,
Bonnie Swoverland, Judy Buck
ingham, Ronnie Barber, Patsy
and Dickie Hasson, Judy Harris
Butch Van Tassel and Jerry Sti-
gall. The mothers of the guests
were also present.
Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Gibson
and their son, of San Francisco,
are visiting this week at the Has
son home.

Calls for Renewals
The local board of the Ameri
can . Association of University
Women met recently at the home
of the president, Mrs. C. E. Stran
ahan. Mrs. Stranahan announced
that membership renewals are
being accepted now by the treas
urer, Miss Ivy Grover.
Women who would like to be
long are asked to contact Mrs.
Howard Billings for Inspection of
their university credentials.
Chalrmenships for the coming
year will be announced soon. The
first fall meeting will be held
September 18.

National Delegate
Mrs. R. E. Ullrick was elected
delegate to the U. S. W. V. auxi
liary nation convention In Wash
ington, D. C, when Jay H. Upton
auxiliary held a special meeting
at the home of Mrs. Lewis Lan
caster on Monday.
Mrs. Robert Stint was chosen
as an alternate to the convention
which will be held from August
22 to 25.
Mrs. Ullrick and Mrs. Lancaster
reported to the group on the
state convention which they at
tended in Newport from June 21
to 24. Refreshments were served
by the hostess.

Mrs. Marietta Yeck, mother of
Mrs. Lester Kramer, passed
away at her I ome in La Grande
last Wednesday, after a long ill
ness. Funeral services were held
there on Saturday. Mrs. Kramer
has been in La Grande for the
past two weeks.
Cub Pack number 25 will have
a picnic in Shevlin park on Sun
day, July 18. There will be no
den meetings until after that
date.
All Cubs of Pack 25 who are
11 years old, are to report to,
the lot behind the city hall on
Saturday morning at 9 to assist
with the pet parade. The boys
are to. be in uniform. The same
group will assemble at the band
stand In Drake park on Saturday
evening at t:au to neip witti the
water pageant.
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Maddox
have had as their house guest for
the past week Maddox's sister,
Mrs. Robert Sieverson, whose
home is In Washington.
Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Halligan of
North Platte, Neb., arrived on
Tuesday to spend the Fourth of
July with the L. R. Halligans.
The two men are brothers.
Tommy Wilson, son of the Ed
Wilsons, is spending several
weeks, in Provo Canyon, Utah,
visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Gene
Hester.
John Elliott of the U.S. navy,
arrived at the home of His par'
ents, Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Colver,
on Saturday, having flown from
Guam to Hawaii, nd from there
to the mainland. He is on a
30-day leave and he and Mrs. El
liott and their son. Mike, will stav
with the Colvers during that time.

week end at East lake.

CEILING DAMAGED
Bend fire department members
answered a general call from the
Kay Swoverland home, 1460 New
port, yesterday afternoon to
check a blaze that was burning
in the Insulated ceiline of the liv
ing room. A "short" in an electric
wire apparently caused the
blaze, fire investigators said,
Damage was not extensive.

38, testified that her husband
donned an Indian war bonnet and
sat in a corner . beating a tom
tom when company came to their
home.
Mrs. Mohr added "Some guests
were amused . . . others bored."
On another occasion, Mrs. Mohr
said her husband, Harry, who is
a student of Indian lore, went to
Montana to join the Crow Indian
tribe.
"He became a brave and stayed
on to take part In a throe-day
sun daiice," she said.

Dies in Hospital
H. G. ("Happy") Eldrldge,
Prineville, died last night at the
St. Charles hospital, following an
illness ot several months. Mr. fc.l
dridge, an old-time resident of
Central Oregon, formerly lived in

The county health department
today announced Its program for
next week.
A child health conference, by
appointment only, will bs held In
the health 'offices at 1:30 p. re.
Wednesday.
An immunization clinic will be
held in the offices from 1 to 3 p.
m. Friday. The regular staff con
ference will also be held Friday.
