The Pirates have six hurlers who have won more games than they have lost. No other club In the majors except the mound-rich Athletics of the American league Bean match that mark. The Pirate "plus men are Bob Chesnes (20), Rip Sewell (3-1), Elmer Riddle (5-2), Kirby Higbe (4-3), Fritz Ostermueller (2-1), and Mel Queen (1-0). Klamath Falls leaped to the number two spot, only a few percentage points ahead of the Santa Rosa Pirates. The Red Sox defeated Pitts burg, 3 to 2, at the climax of a pitching duel between Walt Evans and Dave Stratton. Evans limit ed the diamonds to three hits and struck out six batters to earn the win. Klamath Falls made it two straight over th Willows Cards, 8 to 7, on the 10-hit pitching of southpaw Bob Blengino, former St. Mary's college star. Redding took the measure of Santa Rosa, 20 to 12, for the second time in a row with 14 hits and 17 walks providing the scoring punch. Taking advantage of Larry Smith's erratic hurling, the Med ford Dodgers routed the Marys viile Braves, 8 to 1. Engine Overturns; Three Men Killed Hillsboro, Ore., June 4 IP A locomotive of the Oregon-American Timber Co. overturned about 18 miles southwest of Vernonia yesterday, killing three crew members. The dead were Jeffrey McGreg or, 53, Milwaukie, Ore., engineer; Jerry R. Manning, 57, address un known, fireman; and Frank Wills, 74, Estacada, Ore., timekeeper. Hood Aerial Transportation company announced today it has let the contract for installation of a 15,500-foot tramway on Mt. Hood. The contract, in excess of $350, 000, was awarded to the Pointer Willamette Co. and work will be started immediately. The tram way is to be completed by Dec. 1. The tramway is designed to transport tourists and skiers be tween Tlmberline and Government. Meat Prices Hold To Upward Trend (By United Preu) Meat prices have continued up ward since the CIO packinghouse workers ended their strike May 24 but in most cases the increase has been slight, a nationwide sur vey in 10 cities showed today. Experts in the various cities differed, however, as to the rea son for the continued increase. Many had predicted that the strike's end would bring more abundant and cheaper meat to the nation's dinner tables. The biggest increases were at St. Louis and Detroit. Greenwood kee, Pittsburgh and Chicago, re ported no increases. Prices drop ped on some cuts at Los Angeles and Atlanta. At Atlanta, round steak dropped from 99 to 97 cents and sirloin from 99 to 95. Round steak dropped from 75 cents to GU cents a pound at Los Angeles. A Minneapolis meat dealer said the rising market was "definitely continuing" but that he didn't ex pect prices there to rise 10 cents. Spokesmen for the national as sociation of retail meat dealers did not believe the price rise was general.
