the Big Nine title and the Rose

A local radio commentator In a
broadcast last night said a privately-owned
mining company
had struck a uranium deposit In
the Great Slave lake region ap
proximately 500 miles iorth of
Edrriohton, Alta., In the north
west territory.
Susan Fletcher, In her weekly
broadcast over radio - station
CJOR here, said the enterprise
was "hush-hush" and not open to
the public.
She said Gene Tunney, former
world's heavywelpht boxinu
champion, was on the board of
directors .' of , , tbe , organization
known as the Gold-Uranium Ex
ploration company. ; "'

Charles McKIm; Dr. C. W. Banks,
New Kocholle, N. Y his brother,
Dr. H. A. Banks, Calgary, Alta.,

the strike but said It was a "strike
of considerable proportions."
Development of uranium mines
in Canada is controlled by the
Canadian government and offi
cials reportedly were Instituting
an investigation in efforts to de
termine how a private company
was able to carry on such a proj
ect under the circumstances.
Miss Fletcher said she checked
the story after hearing It men
tioned on Walter Winchell's
broadcast last Sunday.

total secrecy; refusing even to
divulge the identity of persons 'it

Lamotta Called

tigation yesterday was Lamotta;
victim of a fourth-round technical

Lamotta, accompanied by his

Auto Thieves Trapped

bile thieves are In jail because a
quick-witted police telephone op
erator trapped them by turning
downtown traffic lights red.
While Marion Reed was repdrt
ing the theft of his car, he glanced
out of the window of his home and
saw his car passing. He told the
operator, who turned the traffic
lights red and directed police
cruisers to the stolen auto, which
had stopped for the red light.
